📑 Favorite part of your muse’s backstory? 

fiyero yapping

this is gonna sound mean, i like his first death/assassination trauma a lot. lots of aspects to this.

first, his throat scar (in his original design, isola fiyero has more now) is his only scar. fiyero takes meticulous care of his body. he's perfected the combination of first aid and healing magic to avoid scarring entirely. except for the throat.

it plays into the idea of death being heavier to him than a dnd setting implies. that he died— really, truly died. not just a one minute revivify death. he was dead for several hours. and then he was brought back. and it ruined his old life. and it gave him a new one.

i love writing out his anxiety around it. how much he hates death. how truly miserable it is to him, to get hurt, to die, even if just for a minute. how the first death will always be the worst one, but every other one still reminds him of it. i like! how sensitive to the touch the scar is. that it's the only part of fiyero's body that he keeps entirely hidden with his golden band. he is so so so open to sharing his body, but not with this. this is always tucked away.

and i like talking about his fear of suffocation/large bodies of water in relation to his first death. it's something i think about a lot when i consider that, on the road, he'd often have to wash up in rivers or bathhouses. it's a very vulnerable topic for him.

i think what really intrigues me about it all (apart from liking angst) is that it's a very stark contrast to fiyero's default happiness. and at the same time, it plays perfectly into his general attitude of appreciating life with its faults. fiyero chooses happiness, but he also chooses mortality. and personhood. he is messy because that's just what mortals are. they feel. they are happy, they are sad. they try to live. and when they die, they desperately claw at whatever they can hold onto to try and get another day, another hour, another minute, another second.

it's a nice playground to explore that particular aspect of his character. the ugly and the messy and the sad.

"Are you someone that accepted this "quest" as well, or someone looking to face off with the Candy Witch?" Ivy addressed the figure that approached as she examined a low entrance door to the castle. It was locked, which meant either no one else had used it yet or they re-locked behind anyone that entered.

"...Either way, from the looks of you... I can be useful to you, and you can be useful to me." Her red eyes fixed analytically on the candy corn axe carried by the new arrival. Without moving them, she pulled a spicy bean from her utility belt and pushed it firmly into the door's keyhole. The hard candy lock sizzled and cracked sharply.

Taking the handle in her hand, she pulled it open and stepped aside, propping it open for the other to step in first.

At first she'd admit most of it was shocking but at the rate NJ was running at she managed to turn that shock into excitement. Normal people showing up in eclipses was one thing but the person she saw was something else for one particular reason.

that he resents humanity but does the most human thing ever and tries the weirdest foods and food combos. he has the capacity to be stupid and silly in a really deadpan way despite being serious 95% of the time.

📝 Favorite headcanon for your muse? 

i have a headcanon that when training his aim, vash (infamous gunslinging pacifist outlaw) will only level a weapon at bullseye targets, even when he's dry-firing.

this headcanon mostly comes from the influence of Receiver 2, a favorite video game of mine that focuses on guns (i love playing this game especially to maintain muse for vash).

in-game, there are cassette tapes that you collect and listen to in order to advance to the next level. my favorite tape, Silhouettes, has to do with the purposeful american military shift from bullseye targets to silhouette targets.

After World War 2, a military study concluded that only a quarter of American soldiers were willing to line up their sights on a human target. To combat this problem, the army found ways to dampen our natural aversion to killing one another. They replaced bullseye targets with human silhouettes, made training conditions more similar to actual combat, and trained recruits to avoid taking personal responsibility for killing. After enough training, you can eventually learn to stop seeing people at all, and just see silhouette targets everywhere… even in the mirror.

in Receiver 2, there aren't any animal silhouette targets to aim at. and the only human silhouette in the game...
