"Little?" the digimon questioned, in fact the size was that of a large child. Height wise at least, but length wise it was much bigger then a normal adult.

"Now now, your just not yourself at the moment. Its obvious some would find you ...small."

He smiles at the other.

"Not at all, they are very rare to have as a partner."

"Ah so you were a lucky fella then. I missed the gun then." As if she could've been there in the slightest bit. But it was a little bit of wishful thinking that kept her going throughout the day. And maybe one day she'd get something to turn it around and get lucky with something like that.

"Wait you get BIGGER? That's so cool! And honestly I don't know if I prefer that or you right now."

A glance from the digimon alongside the human , sharp and taking notice of everything about the other person. It was a sunny day, with not a drop of rain in sight.

"It's rude to stare." wether he was talking about his partner or the party in question is anyone guess.

"But they're so cooooool!" As if she knew a single thing about the thing that she was staring at in the first place. But all that mattered was it looked really awesome. Which was more then enough of a reason for her.

"Are little fellas like that all common back where you are from? You gotta tell me if they are!"

How loud could she really get? She's only one person and it can't possibly be worse than the creche kids running around screaming and carrying on, right?

...On the other hand that's probably not good for someone's voice, he thinks.

"...Nah, because that's still going to draw attention to me too." That might not even be enough to deter her, for all he knows, but he'd rather use a roundabout method then show too much in front of a stranger right out of the gate, huh? But it’s out of his hands what she actually decides to do.

"Ah I get ya I do." Part of it did feel a little cowardish talk to her but she had met plenty of "introverts" in her life before. Or at least people who wanted to stick to the shadows more then usual. Not that there was anything wrong with that in the first place, and nothing NJ couldn't vibe with either.

"Well then maybe we can find a nice place where we aren't gonna get attention on us. Like a really really tall building. Or out at sea. Either can work honestly."

Admittedly, Nahida has never been one for direct combat. In fact, if given the choice, she would have preferred to avoid it altogether. If given time, words would usually be her go-to over violence, and often gave much better results. This time, however, as she finds herself once again trapped and alone in yet another unfamiliar place, she has little time to contemplate what her next move should be. The silence that follows after the blaring sirens leaves her unsettled, but she knows better than to linger for long.

The white hallways are almost blinding, too minimal yet too much at the same time. A hand raises to shield her eyes from the starkness of it all. And then she sees it, the strange device attached just above the entrance to another room that seemed…to be scanning her. Nahida stands there, confused mostly, as a red light envelops her, retracts once finished, and settles into a red dot pointing at her forehead. "What in the world…?" It's entirely lost on her that it is, in fact, going for the kill.

"Don't just stand there!"

The situation NJ found herself in really wasn't that new to her. Specifically being in some weird spacey alien ship facility was for sure. But inside an enemy base with clearly hostile individuals was thankfully something the battleship had some experience with. Not everyone was so lucky as she was however, and a familiar face was stuck in a place she really shouldn't.

Unfortunately whatever it was being here made the usual cannons feel far weaker then they should. And NJ knew better then to fire at somewhere that could very well break the entire building apart. But in the heat of the moment she fired two shells straight towards the red light, cradling Nahida in her arms with the cloud of smoke behind them.

"I don't wanna sound like I'm your mom or anything but the red dot at your forehead is USUALLY a bad thing Nahida honey~~. Just an FYI if didn't know that." Only then did NJ let her arms fall back to her side, looking back in hopes the thing was destroyed or out of commission enough it didn't fire again.

“Well—” How does he fight against a true statement? “Look, I don’t see you trying at all, so you can’t hold this over my head.”

He doesn’t, apparently. Instead he tries to deflect attention from himself this time.

"Well if you really want me to I can. Though you might want to sit down just in case. I'm a pretty big yeller after all."

As if that really mattered. When one could scream rather loudly so long as they didn't do much else talking before in the day...

He sure doesn’t want that, that’s for sure. But hopefully something with slightly more bite to it is good enough.

You might have. ❞ not entirely, he knows, given he has kept an eye on things, let alone the lack of any gas source or a set of matches to be seen. nor can he really deny the allure of mixing flavors from the soda machine, something he may or may not have done often back in his college days without even the slightest bit of prompting from others. at the very least, he can understand her references on the matter, whether or not it was beneficial to them right now.

which, in this particular case, seems like it was with how she presses about trying it一

"Oh ye of little faith. I'm a professional when it comes to this." How much that was willing to convince him was anyone's guess. But NJ wasn't going to start throwing random things in there without having some sense of what it was. Gone were the days of experiments on whims, now she had to be more precise with the flavors. In order to truly create something that'd blast everyone off their feet...

...Most of the time. Other times it was up to the whims of fate.

IT WAS MORE OF A PARTY FOR IT THAN NOT, substantially different in the usual ways that wriothesley himself approaches it. while he's hardly adverse to gatherings as that, he can't quite recall if he ever labeled them as direct as that. tea time was simply the easiest way to state aloud, nor was he often in the company of others when he partook in that moment to truly call it a soiree. ❝ That hardcore about it, are they? And here I thought I was the tea guy. Won't lie, I'm a little curious on what this all looks like, ❞ he muses, leaning back into his seat as elbows rest upon the arms of his chair.

given the time they all seem to be limited on between their interests and active duties, he can only imagine the hours they might wake up to execute all of this to go as smoothly as the lady in front of him relays. one finger taps on leather, recalling the twilit hours he would have to rise for work in the fortress, a wonder if it was just as similar.

Find something to draw you in compared to tea, that is. ❞ to ask something so small was a means to carry on the conversation, yet he did wonder, all the same, if there was something specific she held in mind. ❝ It could all boil down to how it's prepared, too. Brew it all wrong and the whole pot would have a taste as bad as one of Sigewinne's milkshakes. ❞

"If one of them ever comes 'round I'll be sure to hand them your number. I'm sure they'd love to make the table bigger and talk to you about...whatever they usually talk about." No doubt topics she'd probably find enjoyable too. But that'd require getting invited in the first place, which was a rarity with how busy the BB was in the first place.

"Well crazier things have happened to me before. And I am an adventurous girl so I guess its a possibility. 'Sides if it can grip my attention then it's gotta be good right?"

A rather large leap in logic. But it probably made more sense in her mind then being said out loud.

"Damn a milkshake can taste bad? How'd they screw that up? Isn't something like that some of the most simplest stuff out there?"

          rocky had become accustomed to the humans ( he thought they were all humans, at least ) around him mostly ignoring him, a fact that he was annoyedly suspicious was caused by his height in relativity to theirs. it had never been a problem with grace, but then again, it had only been the two of them out there orbiting tau ceti. and yet, it meant that the eridian was surprised when someone actually stopped to speak to him, an action that made him stop waving his arms and instead spin himself around to get a better impression of the person in front of him.

     he wasn't really sure what he expected, honestly. so many of these humans had the same squishy bodily features. at least this one was noticeably smaller.

     ❝ Rocky can read just fine! ❞ he waved the paper once, as if in emphasis. ❝ Rocky not confused. Stupid stupid stupid humans just give information on flat substance! ❞ and had taken away his light imager, to rub salt in the wound. ❝ Rocky no can hear things that are flat. ❞

"Wait hold on you can't hear things that are flat? But you gotta read the thing on the paper don't ya'?" Unless she was missing something. Though maybe it worked like some of those animals that had to locate people using sounds specifically. But logic probably didn't work as simple as that here, nor did she have any experience with anyone like this before.

"I wouldn't say its because we're stupid. I mean I guess some are but it's just simpler to throw it on a paper like that then have to do go through a few more steps. Of course that makes things well, harder for you it seems..."

If she was understanding all of this correctly that is.

"Wouldn't mind helping you read it off if ya' need a hand. Not the greatest teacher but you seem like someone smart enough to catch on quick."

FROM HEARING THIS RESPONSE ALONE, that would mean he's done his job as host to make certain the one he was serving enjoys the arrangements. while it was nothing so extravagant as those elaborate tea parties one might find within the previous hydro archon's presence before her departure, there was still some sense of pride in his knowledge and, further still, etiquette when having guests over. ❝ That so? Duly noted then, ❞ he retorts back, leaning forward to scoot a few treats her way, too, so she can pair them as she pleases.

before long, he rests both elbows upon his thighs after a sip of his own drink, lacing his fingers together before him in turn.

❝ Sounds like you have some friends who enjoy tea themselves. What's kept you from joining them? ❞ whether or not she wants to explain is up to her, the question left opened, albeit the warden being a little curious as to what held her off in the first place. ❝ Compared to coffee, tea has a lot of different tastes to try. My collection here isn't half as much as what I have back in my office. Not that coffee is bad, but something tells me you won't find a fruitier variant of a coffee bean anywhere like you can with tea leaves... ❞

"They're a bit eccentric when it comes to their tea parties. Coffee and I don't jive too much but something about all those tea flavors do catch my attention a lot." Though it could also be some taste buds in her trying to grasp for anything so it didn't taste nearly as bitter. Those flavors really did help out far more then the BB was willing to admit.

"But the way they do their setups would put some cafes to shame. I don't even know what time some of them start but they could go the entire evening if you know, we weren't all still technically on duty."

Yet they'd still manage to find a way to do all that and be back before anything got cold. Truly a Royal Navy marvel...

"Still seems like tea keeps getting points on the board. Probably for the best unless they can find a real big draw for me compared to this."

PARTNERS 一 THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE. well, what they were supposed to be, at least. two people who were meant to be working together on this little project, concocting... what was it again? something that she had suggested involving carbonated soda water and some kind of sweet, fruity mixture. whatever it was, he was more concerned if she knew how to actually combine the proper things without anything awful transpiring.

honestly, he doesn't even recognize the liquids she has in hand currently at first glance, making it even more of a encroaching fear as she starts to get ready to pour them together. so, he steps forward, putting both hands up to have her pause for a moment.

❝ And you're sure mixing these two things won't cause a bad reaction? At all? ❞ oh god, i can only hope not...

"Come on you're acting like threw some matches on gas! It's just something you gotta do when they got those machines there. Why else would they give you all those flavors in the first place?"

There probably were better ways to introduce a concept like this to someone. Especially when the man was giving her a look that could best be described as "confused and worried intrigue". Still if one didn't do it they'd be doing it a disservice in the eyes of the battleship. Even if it might cost someone their entire afternoon through sheer overload of senses...

"You gotta give a try. Ship girls honor it ain't gonna taste bad alright?"

"Good for them, maybe. It's just pissing me of that she's hiding stuff," Uzi grumbles. "Well, it's not the only thing pissing me off, but whatever."

Throughout her stay in the Inn, Uzi just took care to avoid any hazards. There were lots of freaky rooms and scary monsters, and the best course of action was to simply give them all a wide berth. Last thing she needed was accidentally walking into the industrial shredder room or something.

But the Warden is a different story. It isn't exactly benign, but whatever was going on in the haunted hotel seemed to really piss it off. A fucked-up room stayed in one place, but that thing was hunting.

"What's your distraction idea? Jump into its mouth and hope you're too chewy?" Uzi snorts. "C'mon, I'm already plenty traumatized, but I don't wanna see someone get eaten in front of me."

She turns away, continuing her half-run down the hallway. "Well, someone else," she mutters.

There's no need to be picky, so Uzi takes the first door that doesn't look too foreboding, and holds it open after she slips through. Maybe NJ has a plan, or maybe she'll take the not-stupid option Uzi's presenting to her. If she does get eaten, at least Uzi won't have to watch.

"I don't care what you do, just choose quick," she hisses. "I'm not waiting for you."

"Hey we ain't gonna get eaten! Don't need the negative mojo out here when there's gonna be a way for us." Or at least NJ was hoping there would be. Otherwise one of them might need to take it for the team, which certainly seemed to be pointing towards the battleship more then the drone.

"Plans simple, I'm gonna drag it away from you so you two can have your little talk! It's clearly got some beef with me over you so I think a few little shots will definitely get its attention."

That and maybe piss it off more. But in a way that worked in her favor as well...

" 'Sides you two are gonna need some alone time to get over you know, the thing you got going on. But I got faith in ya' you'll do just fine."

One piping hot cup of tea, ❞ he relays, the sound of his voice accompanied by the softest clink of glass as it's set down in front of her. another is placed down in the same manner opposite of where she sits, the warden finally easing into his own seat once both were served proper. one hand reaches out as he leans in, plucking two lumps of sugar from the center container and plopping them into his own brew of tea.

❝ This one's a little different from the last blend we had. It's a white tea that has small pieces of peach with hints of papaya and marigold, giving it a succulent fruit note. Think of it like a peach cobbler, only as a liquid, ❞ he explains, swirling the tea with a spoon to mix in his sugar as he does. ❝ It can be served hot or cold, so... suppose you don't fancy it hot, there's nothing wrong with cooling it down before having a drink. ❞

"Peach cobbler as a liquid honestly sounds like something I could drink all the time. You could've lead with that and I would've been on board with all of this!"

Still drinking tea wasn't really NJ's specialty. If anything all the battleship did learn from all her time was watching those in the Royal Navy and how elaborate some of those setups could've been. It was almost like a full blown dinner, but for just tea. Somehow both managing to be interesting yet insanely confusing in the same area.

But at least with one person it wouldn't be nearly as bad...

"Honestly I gotta say most of these have been pretty fantastic though. Makes me wonder just how many flavors I've been missing out on just by watching those gals do their thing rather then joining in."

          rocky had never been able to position his arms in the way he'd seen grace do similarly, hands resting on his middle and an exasperated expression on his face. but, in this particular moment, staring at the paper that apparently had all the information he needed, he really wished that he could. because it would perfectly capture the current things he was feeling right about now. mainly: annoyance and irritation. because while the paper might have everything rocky needed to "get started", there was a crucial flaw in this plan: he had no idea what it said. even focusing on it with all his echolocating strength wasn't enough to parse the ink sunk into the glossy page.

     which meant he simply had to resort to stomping his claws angrily, carapace swinging side to side as one arm waved the paper around angrily.

     ❝ Whose idea this!! Stupid, stupid, stupid! ❞ the notes singing from him were high-pitched and loud enough to garner attention, even overlaid with the island's translation system.

Despite saying such a comment NJ didn't quite know how to help the individual struggling to apparently read the pamphlet. Though she didn't quite understand the whole "rock" wanting to read in the first place either. Both of which managed to confuse NJ beyond belief, yet still be intrigued enough to try and assist him as best she could.

"Never read something like that before? They use a whole bunch of mumbo jumbo on there that might confuse ya'. You know how it is with all that jargon people put out on that paper."

𝟎𝟖 - "Stop eyeing it, I'm not giving you any." The Sinner held a fully topped hot dog that she'd picked up at the boardwalk over to the side, as far away from New Jersey as she could possibly put it. She was familiar with this one. A noisy woman that reminded me of a mixture of Rodya and Don Quixote, and a woman that claimed to be a "ship" the last time they'd met.

"Why would a ship even need a hot dog? Can't you just sip some fuel or something?" Anything to get her away from the hot dog.

"Uh because they're tasty? Why else would I want one?" She wasn't wrong in that NJ really didn't need to eat food. It only just helped calm her down when the moments between days got boring. But really, the most important thing was that she most certainly didn't sip on fuel. Unless for whatever reason it started to taste better then she remembered...

"Like come on you gotta give me one at least! Or tell me how far back it was walking in that direction."
