My brain was drifting this afternoon, and I had a very basic idea for a Thing.
It’s the distant year of 20something. (doesn’t really matter, can be any year past this one)
Humanity, or that which once was humanity, is at war with itself. Earth is a grey, dark wasteland of concrete rubble and steel.
Society has been divided into two factions; those who are of pure flesh and bone, and those who chose to transfer their consciences into cybernetic machinery. Both sides are in a constant state of war.
Many flesh and bone media has been lost to time, except for their music. That exists in a massive archive. As a result, nearly everyone listens to music from the archive as a sort of comfort.
In order for the cybernetic machinery boys to keep going, they dig up human gravesites and hook the dead’s brains up to more cyberlads so they can continue to fight.
Specifically, they dig up famous musicians (Elvis, Sid Vicious, Kurt Cobain, etc.) as a very petty jab at the flesh+bones.
In order for the musicians to not turn against the cyberlads, they wipe their memory of anything relating to their names, history, and their own music. They still act like their real life counterparts though.
Scientists also design their machinery to match the counterpart as well (Elvisbot has leather, Kurtbot has the flannel, etc.) and give them fighting attributes based on their music e.g. Elvisbot has a sickass gunarm named Hound Dog and Kurtbot has a tracker thingy called Polly
This seems like a lot, but it can really be summed up as “haha cool robot musicians with weapons”.
