The chasm yawns endlessly below, the cyclopean spires of Commorragh piercing upward out of the gloom. The details of these vast structures are hidden by the hazy gloaming — the many lights on the spire's terraces, which resemble marsh gas, are all that bring color to this bleak and awe-inspiring vista. The towering height takes your breath away and you almost swoon... and then a gentle shove at your back makes you lose your balance.

The moments stretch into an eternity: your firm footing is swept out from under you, your heart stops beating entirely, the chasm below seems to rush up toward you, ready to swallow you whole... and then clawed fingers close around your wrist, halting your fall, but holding you suspended over the abyss.

so you know how marazhai only speaks low gothic because he literally had it edited into his brain? i have a headcanon that at some point he hires a haemonculus to write the drukhari language into cyra's brain so that he doesn't have to bother with the mon-keigh tongue anymore to talk to her and after that, they start having constant little private side conversations that drive everyone else absolutely crazy. jae picks up a few words every once in a while so sometimes the others will ask her to translate and she just goes "trust me. you don't want to know." heinrix has an elucidator but everyone learned to stop asking him to use it because the last time they tired, he punched a wall.

kinda love that one of the ways the marazhai/RT romance can play out is for the RT to offer marazhai an alliance literally every time they meet no matter how antagonistic he's behaving. and he definitively turns down every one of these offers until he has literally no better choice at which point he finally agrees. then the RT proceeds to save his life, kill his enemies, help him escape the gladiator pits, keep him constantly well-fed and entertained (to the point that he finds the experience more enjoyable than the best of his raids), and install him as archon of the reaving tempest (which was his goal all along). and then RT just kinda goes "bet you wish you'd joined me earlier now huh dumbass"
