Along the deep sided creek where the Alders grow
Beavers work and weave around a homely damn
Flood water trickles down from last winter’s snow,
Muddy pools not yet full where silver fish once swam.
Damp, rich alluvial soil, willows sway in fair breeze
Small birds dart to and through for the catkin seed,
Dappled early light brings welcome warmth to tease
Early growth from flowers to provide insects rich feed.
Lonely seeking bee zigzags over blue forget-me-not
Scouting out its home and life-giving nectar feast
Like a wandering auctioneer listing each prized lot,
This is ancient kjarr-myrrh for tranquil bird and beast.
Up in the blue sky flies the shadow of swift fear
Signalling near danger to birds at work and play,
Circling overhead the Sparrow Hawk grows near
Bringing deadly menace to past peaceful day.
While the wild predator surveys its hiding prey
Peril stalks the air holding time in grey-fatal hands
Small creatures will not continue their way
Until winged departs from unmoving lands.
This is the place where we first walked together
Wandering among wild parsley, distant cattle low,
Crocus shines in soft-cut diamonds of early weather,
As we rest, you dress my hair in a red ribbon bow.
Your eyes shyly steal my heart in childlike bliss
Bewitching my senses with beauty of your face,
Trembling fingers touch your lips for our first kiss,
Yes, love begun my darling, in calm secret place.
You became keeper of my heart that remembered day
Surrendering in buttercup field with singing birds above
Passion danced around us in balmy month of May
Discovering first sweet moments of our special love.
