Lois, ever the feminist, always believed in being able to defend herself. She wasn’t going to wait around for someone like Clark to take care of her—she was going to take care of herself. This mentality coupled with her father’s paranoia and need to mold his daughters in his image meant that Lois was pretty skilled in hand-to-hand, at least, for someone who didn’t do it full time. She was still trying to keep her skills sharp, however, and as she practiced what she was doing against a punching bag, she couldn’t help but feel a sort of catharsis come over her. Any stresses or pressures she’d been holding onto faded away.
