i started my second run of dragon age veilguard and i keep thinking about crow!rook and lucanis. like, a de riva rook that’s viago’s younger brother, so he knows that his brother received a knife from another crow years ago.
and then he meets lucanis and puts two and two together from the descriptions his brother gave him and his first thought is “WELL IF VIAGO WON’T TAKE HIM, I WILL” after breaking him out of prison.
cut to the time the two of them go to the market, and rook keeps eyeing the wyvern tooth dagger and contemplates buying it, wondering if lucanis would even put two and two together that he’s mimicking the same gesture he once did for his older brother.
but he buys it anyways, whether in an intention to start courting or as a friendly gift is for lucanis to decide. and of course lucanis remembers, how could he possibly forget? now rook has a very flustered assassin they need to deal with, all while spite is going utterly FERAL in the back of lucanis’ mind.
“rook. cares! rook. really cares!”
“it was a friendly gesture spite-“
“no! his brother. spurned you for. giving him a knife. but! rook gives you. a precious gift!”
“quiet, spite.”
“no! i want. to talk. to ROOK! let me. talk to rook!”
