Why are all the crows in dragon age so squishy like

At first Zevran tried to kill the Warden, sure, but he became much softer after getting to know them and he is actually not that assassin-y and uses humor to cope and cover up his his feelings and becomes incredibly soft with the Warden when romanced :(

Viago de Riva may act all prideful and be a little mean to Rook but he is actually more like a father figure and worries about Crow!Rook a lot and there is dialogue lines where people say he is less insufferable/happier when Rook is around <///3 He calls them idiot in the letter but ugh the parental worry that radiates from that paper

Teia is actually very fiery and a very good fighter/assassin when she wants to but she gets genuinely emotional when Caterina was captured to the point where Viago has to give her some support. She asks about Rook and is also very caring towards them, no matter if they are from the Crow faction or not

Lucanis. Just Lucanis. At first you’d think he’d be that hot antivan assassin (which he is) but then turns out he is actually extremely sleep deprived and survives off caffeine and spite (ha, get it?). He cooks for the others and gets childishly excited about wyverns but also believes he outgrew his obsession with them. He gets on his knees for romanced Rook. He has wet kitten-puppy eyes and needs lots of love. He loves his cousin even after Illario betrayed him, sold him off to the venatori and kind of made him live through the worst hell possible. Also, he treats Spite like a disgruntled toddler

I am no Caterina defender but she, in the end and after everything, probably genuinely still wants whats best for both her grandsons, even if she may have favoured one over the other and put them through the agonising crow training. She still loves both her grandsons.

Illario. He may have sold his cousin off for power and/or money but I kind of think he was genuinely glad to see Lucanis back. Also, he is being casual with Rook by wanting to show them the sights. In the final battle, if Lucanis dies, Illario tries to play it off by saying he only sees wasted time, but like… I DON’T BELIEVE HIM!! Illario loves his cousin and Lucanis loves his, I will die on that hill

“Dawn in Treviso”

@veilguard-appreciation-week Day 4 (day late but its worth it I promise)

He stretched awake and glared angrily at the light beaming in from the window. They are usually locked tight before sleeping with the curtains drawn close from prying eyes, but now the first rays of the morning sun stir him from slumber.

As his eyes adjust he takes a moment to appreciate the scene he finds, the way even buildings seem to glow with new life in the first sunbeams that sneak from beyond the hills and peaks that surround the city.

Viago often found himself wondering if the cities of Antiva had been designed to be beautiful by both day and night. Treviso is a jewel in any light. She is deadly and seductive by night, but by morning something very different but no less beautiful.

Very few Crows see dawn in Treviso. In their own time they see evenings, dusks, and midnights. They’ll even see the small hours which are reserved for passion or crime — sometimes both. But very rarely does an Antivan Crow see dawn.

Dawns are for renewal and lingering in the warm sunlight. They are for lazy breakfasts, slow talks, and wiping the sleep from one’s eyes. No place for an assassin.

He knows all of this, damn him, he teaches all these lessons himself to fledglings. Yet Viago once more finds Rook in his bed by the soft morning light. Rook, the likely culprit who’d left the curtain pulled back the night before. She’s always loved the view from his bedroom windows that overlook the canals of Treviso.

With an annoyed sigh, he scrubs his face in his calloused palms, careful to avoid his perfectly manicured beard.

This can’t keep happening, He thinks to himself and he knows it’s true. Maybe he is too much like his father — the thought is quick to fill him with anger.

Him and Teia are broken up again, it’s not the same, he makes a mental note.

Lifting his head from his hands he looks over at her sleeping form, motionless in his purple silk sheets. A wry smile crosses his face when he thinks about how this is probably the longest he’s ever heard her be silent.

It’s nice.

Hot skin against skin flash into his mind— his skin against hers. Followed quickly by the sounds of her little moans and the way she lavishes on the letter “V” when she chants his name as he thrusts into her from behind. Heat floods his cheeks and he’s grateful there are no witnesses to see the head of House DeRiva blush like a babe.

Maybe he doesn’t mind her when she’s not quiet.

That sentiment isn’t the only weakness on display right now. No, his fondness for Rook would be evident to anyone who stumbled upon this sacred little scene. The way he traces her spine gently with his fingertips, how he studies her breathing and relaxes to the sound. A momentary panic of being caught is quickly chased away by remembering that he is Viago DeRiva and any spies to this paradise would be dead before they could utter a word.

The smile on his face grows as a little hum of laughter rumbles in his chest at the thought.

Rook is beautiful like this, clearly adored by the morning sun if the way it seems to drip like honey across her sleeping form is any indication. He’d never admit it, but he couldn’t blame the sun — he felt that same adoration for her grip his chest all too often since they’d met.

She’d had fewer scars then, he thinks to himself as his fingertip gently brushes against a more recent one. A healed stab wound by the looks of it.

No leather glove to dull the sensation he feels as he maps the surface of her. It’s like he’s drawn to her as his body moves closer to spoon her sleeping form as his hand continues exploring. It was a rare sensation he enjoyed, his bare hands on another’s skin. Maybe that is why somehow this feels more intimate than what they’d done the night before.

Again, his mind plays the scenes back before he can block it out. The perfect view he’d gotten from where his face had been positioned between her legs as he devoured her. Her pants and breaths as she’d clawed at his lush hair and guided him.

His reverie is broken for a moment when he shakes his head at that last memory — she’d always been so bossy.

He drops a soft kiss to the side of her neck, not enough to wake her but just enough to enjoy her pleased murmur in response. Soft — he must be going soft in his older age but then Rook had always brought out whatever tenderness still lived within him.

Bird calls echo on the glassy mirrors that are the stilled canals of Treviso at dawn. This perfect scene of calm is soon to be over and he must force himself to leave this softness with it. The way he feels for her is complicated and dangerous, deadly business for a Crow.

But he’d let himself linger here a little longer, in a beautiful scene of two lovers at dawn against the backdrop of Treviso.
