The Five of Swords

She won. That's all that matters.

The Five of Swords is the card of hollow victory, of self sabotage and triumph claimed at any and all cost. It speaks of battles fought to be right rather than just, where ego eclipses consequence. To Loretta, the wreckage she leaves behind is never loss, but confirmation... proof that she was right to burn everything in her path. They were weak. She was just better than all of them.

A huge thank you to the incredibly talented @ratbagjasper for this absolutely stunning tarot commission of my darling despot Loretta Cousland. Jasper was beyond lovely to work with and brought the vision I had for the piece together so beautifully. Thank you so much!!!!

I hand-drew all of the patterning, including the Dalish symbolism in the background! Figuring out how to represent the Blight was a fun challenge, and I’m happy with how it turned out.

The Star - this card typically appears when all hope seems lost & shows that you’ve just lost sight of the path. The Star lights the way forward. It can tell people to look inside themselves for a spark that was waiting to cast its light into the world. It’s a card of faith. It can be belief in yourself, something external, or a deity. It tells us that having faith in any power can help that power manifest in your life. It’s a very positive card, because it’s a beacon of hope & inspiration, showing that even in the darkest times there is a way out.

The anchor, and to some degree the Inquisition, is symbolically the Star, showing Ishanami a way forward. It gives him something to believe in, as well as something powerful internally (the anchor) and externally (the Inquisition). Additionally, the Inquisition & the Inquisitor are symbols of faith, as well as signs of hope, much like The Star.

Parallelanprincess’ fic uses the Inquisition in this way as well. It gives Ishanami something to believe in - while also showing him that he has purpose - and has had power inside him all along. He learns that he is someone that people believe in and can bring hope to, and the Inquisition and its members do this for him as well.

I haven't tried drawing a dragon age style tarot in years. Still can't get the art style down and end up with a kinda in between line art something haha
