Series masterlist
Prince Daeron snuggled deeper into his hiding place as he heard footsteps. He silently waited for whoever he had entered to leave. But then the long tablecloth that covered the table was lifted, revealing his parents crouching down.
“Is there a place for us?” His father asked with a smile and normally Daeron would have calmed down when he saw it but with the words of his grandmother and the maester still running through his head, he wanted to cry.
You and Aegon exchanged a worried look when you saw that your son only nodded with his lips in a straight line, nothing like your always happy baby.
The prince saw how his parents took the crown off their heads and then left them on the floor and got under the table with him. Father pulled the tablecloth again to hide the three of them from the rest of the world.
Daeron felt warm and loved with his body pressed between yours and Aegon's. He wanted to stay there forever, with father holding you two and your hands gently stroking his hair while you hummed his favorite song. But he knew that his parents couldn't stay hidden with him forever because you were king and queen and you two had many things to do and he also had to return to his lessons.
“Am I grounded?” he asked making you stop humming.
“Should we punish you?” Aegon asked instead making his son look at him confused.
“I ran away from my lessons,” the prince said, not understanding why neither you nor Aegon seemed upset or angry with him.
“We know, your grandmother and the maester told us,” you told him.
Both you and Aegon noticed how Daeron grew smaller at the mention of adults. You watched as your husband frowned and clenched his jaw. You had no idea what was going on in his head but it clearly wasn't a good thing.
“Did they do something to you?” he asked, surprising you and your son. But Aegon didn't mince words, if Alicent or that maester had dared to lay a hand on his son then his mother would return to her family home in Old Town and the maester would be Sunfyre's next meal. “. “Daeron if they did something to you you have to tell us.”
"They didn't do anything," the boy quickly said when he saw the serious look in his father's eyes. He didn't want his grandmother and the maester to get into trouble because of him. "It's just that," he fell silent, not being sure if he wanted to talk about what was distressing him. He didn't want to disappoint you two.
“You can tell us anything, little dragon,” you encouraged him when you saw that he seemed hesitant. “No one will be mad at you,” you assured him and kissed his forehead.
“They said I should do better in my lessons if I want to be a good king.”
Your heart broke as you heard your baby's trembling little voice. And Aegon felt his anger with his mother increase, it had not been enough for him to make him feel inadequate for most of his life and now he made his son feel bad too.
But any anger was forgotten with Daeron's next words.
“But I don't want to be king because if I'm king then it means mother and you aren't with me anymore!” He shouted before bursting into tears and Aegon rushed to pick him up and lift him onto his lap. Daeron's hands quickly latch onto his father's neck as he begins to rock his body from side to side like he did when Daeron was a baby.
You watch with a heavy heart and without knowing what to do. You weren't prepared for this conversation. You can't lie to your son and tell him that the two of you would never leave his side because neither of you is immortal. But you don't want to stay silent either. You want to comfort your baby and make his anguish disappear.
“My little dragon, you don't have to worry about that yet,” you began to speak while you gently wiped the tears from his cheeks. "Your father and I will live for many years, so long that we will start to bother you and you will want us to leave you alone."
“It's a lie, I'll always need you,” he said, making Aegon laugh and earning a kiss on the forehead from her.
“I'm going to tell you a secret but you have to promise not to tell anyone,” you said as you raised your little finger and your son soon intertwined his own finger with yours, looking at you with his violet eyes full of curiosity.
“Won't you make Father promise too?” He asked when he saw that you didn't extend your pinky to Aegon.
“No, because he has known for a long time and never told anyone,” you responded, making your husband smile and you leaned in to steal a short kiss, making the prince complain. “Someone’s anxious,” you scoffed.
“Mother, I want to know!”
“Do you remember your uncles Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey?” Your son nodded repeatedly, excited because you didn't usually talk about your brothers as much as Uncle Egg, and Aegon made sure to put one of his hands on Daeron's head to prevent him from hitting the table.” Well, when I miss them a lot they usually come to see me in my dreams. So when you miss us or need us you can look for us in your dreams.”
“And you are always going to come?” Daeron asked anxiously.
“We can't promise that but we'll try,” your husband answered for you when he saw that you weren't sure what to say.
“I hope you make an effort or I will get angry with you,” the prince warned, crossing his arms, but instead of intimidating you, he made you two smile.
“It seems fair to us” You kissed his cheek and Daeron smiled.
“Now stop worrying and go find your brothers to play,” your husband said as he carefully lowered Daeron off of him.
“But my lessons”
“I ran away from my lessons all the time and I'm still a good king, right?”
“Aegon, don't give him any ideas,” you patted him on the back but your husband could see that you weren't seriously reprimanding him or that you were upset by how you were holding back a smile. After all, he sometimes sneaked out of his lessons to be with you. He still remembered how Alicent scolded him when she found him in the gardens with you but he didn't care because in the end, you had made him a pretty flower crown, if it were up to him he would have worn it until the flowers had withered but he could barely use it for two days when his mother forbade him to continue wearing it because he was not acting like a prince. “Today is an exception but then you have to continue attending your lessons with the maester and pay attention,” you said, bringing your husband back to the present.
“If I have to study more then I don't want to be king” the boy complained.
“Being king sounds tough, right?” Aegon sighed dramatically. "But don't worry, your mom and I will take care of everything so when your turn comes you won't have a lot of work to do,” he assured his son as he ruffled Daeron's hair. “Now go to play.”
Daeron smiled and kissed each of them on the cheek.
“I love you,” he said before quickly leaving under the table feeling much better.
jaehaerys sat upright, playing with a wooden horse that had been gifted to him by his cousin jacerys. aegon sat crisscrossed next to him smiling and chuckling and his son. “are you have fun jaehaerys?” he asked, leaning down so he was at his son's level.
jaehaerys babbled, nodding his head and smiling. “yes, daddy,” he said as aegon smiled even wider.
aegon then turned his attention to jaehaera, who was sitting playing with her mother. he raised his hand and ruffled her hair. “your hair has grown quite long, just like your mothers hasn’t it?”
Helaena nodded, “she is quite fond of braids. she requests many different ones. she often says she wants you to do it but we have to explain you can’t.”
aegon looked at her and frowned. “teach me then, is can’t be that hard.”
”okay, so over, add hair, over, add hair? it’s just that simple patter?” aegon asks, jaehaera sitting on a stool with aegon hovering over her. the maid couldn’t help but chuckle, she found it both amusing and enduring that the king wanted to learn how to braid his daughters hair just because she wanted him to.
“you learn fast my king,” she complimented. “i’m sure she greatly appreciates it.”
aegon smiles, knowing his kids receive the love he was never shown. “i hope she does as well.”
Soft new dad Aegon was told by the midwives that Jaehaerys needed skin on skin contact - no one expected him to just take off his clothes on the spot ✨🥹

Warnings: Infant Death, Angst.
Daeron groaned again in his sleep. Instantly Aegon dipped another handkerchief back into the water while you removed the one on the boy's forehead so that your husband could place the new handkerchief. The groans subsided making a small part of Aegon feel relieved but he would rather hear Daeron's groans than silence. Daenera had died quietly, without making a single sound.
"He'll be fine," you said in an attempt to reassure Aegon but also yourself. Neither of them had slept since Daeron got sick. Two days had already passed since the Master interrupted your chambers to inform you that his son had fallen asleep in the middle of his lessons and that when he wanted to wake him up he realized that he was flying with fever. Since then Aegon had not left Daeron's side while you only left the room to see how the rest of your children were and to make sure that Aemond had everything under control. "His fever is already going down," you announced as you stroked Daeron's face.
"I won't rest until he's fully healed," Aegon admitted. He knew it was a simple disease but still, he was afraid. Something could always happen. Life taught him that when he lost Jaehaerys, Maelor, and Daenera. The deaths of his children were sudden. He hadn't had the chance to say goodbye to them, he couldn't tell them that he loved them or be by his side during his last breath… At least now he could accompany Daeron. He hadn't been there for Jaehaerys or Maelor. If he had been there no one would have dared to touch them. Now he was with Daeron but he couldn't do anything because this time it wasn't about criminals or a violent servitude wanting to harm him but the enemy was a disease. He couldn't threaten or force the disease to leave his son's body. He felt helpless. It made him want to scream at the thought of another of his children dying and he again did nothing to help. He wasn't going to be able to take it. He couldn't go through this again.
Your hand brought him back to reality. He clung to your touch in an attempt to keep himself from dwelling on the possible death of another of his children.
"I know. I'm scared too” you said and kissed his knuckles “But he's not Daenera” you reminded him with a soft voice imagining where your husband's mind was going. “She is dead but Daeron is still alive. You have to stop mourning our son as if he were already dead" you asked, squeezing his hand "Daeron is strong, trust him"
Your words were like a slap to Aegon. I knew you were right. But he couldn't control his head. His mind tormented him with images of Daeron dying, with the silent sisters wrapping around his little body as they once did Jaehaerys and Daenera's, with you again standing before the pyre trying to gather strength to order your dragons to burn. the body of another of his sons…At least this time it wouldn't be a violent death. It wouldn't be like Jaehaerys and Maelor. He felt like vomiting when he remembered the body of his firstborn without his head, his discomfort increased at the memory of the murmurs of how little Maelor's mutilated body had been left. He had never seen it. He couldn't be at his funeral.
"Aegon" Now your hands were on his cheeks and you looked at him with pure concern. And he hates himself for doing this to you. You were already worried about Daeron, you didn't need any more worries. He had to be strong, he needed to be strong for you but he couldn't.” “You should sleep. You're just torturing yourself by staying awake. I'll call the maestre to give you something to help you sleep."
"No!" Aegon exclaimed and grabbed your wrists before you could get away from him "Please don't take me away from him" your heart broke at the despair in your husband's eyes "I need to be by his side. I can not leave it. What if the same thing happens as with Daenera?” He said with a broken voice.
Daenera Targaryen died while everyone was sleeping. You woke up in the middle of the morning to Daeron's cries asking to be fed, you were surprised not to hear a single moan from his twin because when one of the two cried it didn't take long for the other to join in the lamentations so you went to see her at her cradle. You started to scream when you realized that your daughter's small chest was not moving. Your husbands were not long in appearing at your side. The guards entered with raised swords ready to fight any threat only to find you weeping in Aemond's arms, who stood between you and Daenera's cradle to prevent you from seeing your dead daughter's body any further. As soon as he saw the guards, Aegon began to yell at them to bring all the maesters quickly, although you knew that it was already too late and that it would be useless. They confirmed what you already knew: that your baby was dead.
"It won't happen"
The moment you saw the tears running down your husband's cheeks you hugged him. The king hid his face in your neck and clung to you as he continued to cry, hating himself for being weak. He should be the one holding you, he should be your rock, he should be the one stroking your hair while he whispered soothing words to you. Not vice versa. He could see that you were trying to be strong for both of you but he noticed that your voice was getting more and more shaky and he wasn't surprised when he heard you sob. You had told him that you were also afraid and instead of calming you down, he only made everything worse. He was a terrible husband.
Summary: Aegon is worried about Jaehaera's future.
This is part of the universe of "The Queen and her husbands" but it can be read independently without having read the series. The only thing you have to know is that Helaena is dead, as are Jaehaerys and Maelor. And Reader is Aegon's second wife.
Aegon and Jaehaera are very important to me so I wanted to write something related to them for a long time. I hope you like it 💖💖

Disclaimer: English is not my first language so I apologize for any mistakes.
You entered the cameras you shared with Aegon and Aemond. You found the king with a glass of what you supposed to be wine and watching through the window like Jaehaera flew with Morghuel while she was followed by her siblings and they dragons. You weren't surprised to see Aegon alone and thoughtful. You knew that the last meeting with the Council was not to his liking. Nor was it from yours.
Aegon turned for a moment when he heard the sound of the door open but his attention soon returned to his daughter.
"Do you think I'm a fool to refuse?" He asked.
During the last meeting, Jaehara's possible nuptials had been discussed. After the last day of his daughter's name, they began to receive proposals for her hand. Now that Jaehaera is sixteen, the court thinks she is ready to marry but Aegon could disagree more. Or maybe he was the one who was not ready to see her leave.
Jaehaera was the last thing he had left of Helaena. Aegon may haven't loved her sister romantically and her marriage may have been unwanted but he loved her just as he loved all of their children. He had to protect Jaehaera as he had been unable to protect Jaehaerys and Maelor. He owed it to Helaena.
If Jaehaera married, she was expected to go live on her husband's lands. If his daughter was away how was he supposed to protect her? He couldn't trust her future husband to take care of her. He couldn't trust anyone. Years ago people whispered about how strange Jaehaera was, how she sometimes seemed immersed in her own world, how she rarely smiled. Now those same people were fighting for his attention so they could marry his daughter, the same girl they didn't want to be around before because of her supposed weirdness.
Aegon wasn't stupid, he knew that they only wanted Jaehaera because they thought the house she married would get more power, they assumed that he would get them more lands and receive more favors from him.
“Of course not,” you responded as you hugged him from behind. You felt your husband's body relax a little. “I would be more worried if you had said yes” you confessed, resting your cheek on his back.
Aegon took one of your hands from around him and kissed it before placing it back on his chest, where your hand was before.
“If Jaehaera gets married, people will expect her to give her husband children. I don't want her to go through the delivery bed. She's too young,” he declared and took a long drink of wine, trying to get the image of her daughter bleeding on the delivery bed out of her head.
He also didn't like thinking about Jaehaera having a baby. She was only sixteen years old—the same age as him when she and Jaehaerys were born—she shouldn't have to worry about raising a child when she was still a child. He wanted to continue watching her grow, he wanted to continue seeing her flying carefree with her siblings, he wanted to see her making flower crowns with her siblings, he wanted her only worries to be taking care of Morghul and taking care of her gardens. Jaehaera didn't need a husband. She was happy as she was.
"I don't want to lose her or for her to end up hurt. I want her to always continue enjoying her freedom."
You frowned as you heard the defeat in your husband's voice. As if he thought that it wouldn't matter what he wanted, Jaehaera would end up getting married and suffering because of it. You couldn't let him continue thinking that so you took the glass out of his hand and then left it on the table and took his face in your hands to get his attention. "Remember that you are the king, love. You have the power. Not the court or the council. No one can force you to get Jaehaera married" you reminded him with determination in your eyes "Don't let yourself be carried away by the pressure. Don't make the same mistakes as your father" you advised him.
Aegon couldn't help but grimace at the mention of Viserys but still valued your words. He was grateful to have you by his side, you always helped him open his eyes and come to his senses. The truth is he wouldn't know what he would do without you. If it weren't for you, it would surely take forever to find the solution to his problems or he would be making mistake after mistake. Taking you as his wife was the best decision he had ever made.
"Please don't mention Viserys again. I can't stand it," he complained and feigned retching exaggeratedly.
"You needed to come to your senses" You defended yourself with a shrug "Desperate situations call for desperate measures" you joked.
Your husband laughed before kissing you. You hummed happily and satisfied that you had gotten him back into a good mood before kissing him back, pulling him closer to you.
At the next meeting with the council, Aegon announced that Jaehaera would not marry anyone unless she wanted, not knowing that his daughter at that very moment was on Dragonstone having a Valyrian wedding. But that's a story for another day.
Okay, guys, I still haven't finished writing Dad Aegon's oneshot with Daeron sick but I'm already warning you to prepare for the anguish bc my man can't help but think about his dead children Jaehaerys, Maelor and Daenera 😭😭
I'm going to try to add some fluff at the end but so far I just wrote angst
