Lorna I am loving all the soft dad!robron fics so much! I'm sure you have a million prompts but I'm super curious to see Liv around Seb and how she would react to seeing Aaron in dad mode. Maybe it's a few months after robron have gotten back together?
Aaron noticed Liv was watching him long before she spoke. Things hadn’t been the best, with Liv lately, and they’d only really turned a corner now - a month to the wedding, four months after him and Robert had gotten back together.
Robert was out at the shops. They hadn’t any food in the house, and they’d flipped a coin for it, neither of them fancying a full family outing to Tesco, leaving Aaron home with Sebastian and Liv.
Aaron looked up from where he was lying on the living room floor, chatting aimlessly to Sebastian as he did his afternoon round of tummy time, gurgling like mad. His stories, Robert would say with a grin, the two of them happy to play along and pretend like Seb was telling them the secrets of the universe.
“What do you mean?” Aaron asked, squinting at his sister. She was finally growing into sixteen, maturing in ways that astounded them both, Liv focused on school in a way she never had been before, her counselling paying off.
“How did you forgive him? How did you - how did you take on his son?”
Aaron looked at Sebastian, the boy giving him a gummy grin, and he felt his heart swell with love for the tiny human being on the floor in front of him. “I know - I know it might be hard to understand, Liv, but I love Robert, and Sebastian is part of him.”
“I know how everything happened was awful,” Aaron interrupted gently. “But I tried not being with Robert, and it didn’t make me happy. The love I’ve got for him, it’s worth fighting for, Liv, I don’t know how else to explain it.”
“So you don’t see all the bad times, when you look at him?” Liv asked. She’d stayed as detached as possible from Sebastian, all these months, and they'd decided to give her time, and space.
It was a big change for them all, in the end.
“I see a kid who’s not to blame for what his parents did,” Aaron said, stroking a finger against Sebastian’s cheek. “I forgave Robert for the cheating a long time ago, you know. I just - I needed to figure out if I could forgive Seb too, I guess.”
“I love him,” Aaron admitted, enjoying Sebastian’s delighted gurgle as Aaron bopped his giraffe toy against his nose. “I love him, and I love being his dad, and I’m going to love him as much as I love every other kid me and Robert have.”
Aaron thought about the conversation he and Robert had a few nights ago, talking adoption and all the kids they wanted to have together when they were more settled, when everything with Seb was more permanent.
(“Maybe Christmastime,” Robert murmured, face tucked into the crook of Aaron’s shoulder.”
“Christmastime,” Aaron hummed his agreement. “It’s the most wonderful time of the year, I s’pose.”)
“It’s for real, Liv,” he said, heart in his mouth as Liv crossed the room, settling herself down on the floor next to them.
“Why does he have to do this?” she asked, absently stroking a finger against Sebastian’s play-mat as she questioned him, her gaze solely, steadily on Sebastian for what felt like the first time.
“It helps strengthen all the muscles in his neck and stuff,” Aaron said, stretching out a little more. “So you grow up big and strong, isn’t that right mate?”
“He’s got Robert’s nose,” Liv commented, still keeping her distance.
“He does,” Aaron agreed. “Poor kid, eh?”
Liv let out a laugh, her eyes bright. “Yeah, poor kid.”
It wasn’t a giant leap forward - but it was enough, it was enough for Aaron to know this was going to work, that this would be forever.
