Khalila repeating Wolfe’s lessons
Just found a parallel that I fully believe is intentional.
So, in Ash and Quill, after the gang escape from Philadelphia, Khalila starts crying when she’s talking to Jess about pulling a dying man from the burning city. Wolfe says the following to her:
"We all deal with things in our own way. [...] No shame in any of it. Even despair."
While in chapter 12 of Sword and Pen, Dario is struggling with what he has just done at Santi’s command, and Khalila says:
“No,” she whispered, and put her hands on his face. “My love, there is no shame in tears for a terrible thing. However necessary it might have been.”
Those aren’t identical, but they’re very, very similar. I fully headcanon that Khalila is, probably subconsciously, remembering Wolfe’s words when she says that. Remember, Ash and Quill and Sword and Pen are at most a couple of months apart.
