Dario Santiago, as portrayed at the end of Smoke and Iron by Rachel Caine, for @thegreatlibraryfangirl! Thanks so much for commissioning me; it came at just the right time, and I had a lot of fun with it! ❤️

Personal rant re self-harm below, so do feel free to avoid!
great trope
Why Christopher Wolfe signs his name in hieratic? Because he can.
rereading your own fics/wips is a very slippery slope into finding out you actually have to finish your fics if you want them finished
plot 150 words bed-sharing 200 words smut 800 words projecting my fears, insecurities, and anxieties onto a fictional character 9,356 words fluff 150 words someone who is good at fan fiction please help me budget my WIP, my family is dying
150 words of plot seems excessive.
thank you for the reasonable advice
writing is 10% storytelling and 90% rearranging three sentences for an hour like you're trying to solve an ancient curse
starting a collection
or the tumblr version: not my circus and not my monkeys, but thanks to my mutuals, i am familiar with the lore
btw i love when dubcon is used in fiction as a way to explore characters. i love when characters don’t understand how to “properly” ask for consent because they have never had their consent respected in their lives. i love when traumatized adult characters make potentially unwise choices about what to do with their bodies because they have the autonomy to do so. i love when characters make choices that i personally wouldn’t make, but i can totally understand how they got there. i love when characters have complex, fucked up, unhealthy dynamics, but still care about each other and want to do better. i love when writers trust audience members to read between the lines instead of spoon feeding them moral lessons. i love when characters are allowed to actually fuck up and have mistakes to learn from!
Remember that you started your WIP for a reason.
You loved the idea.
You loved what the idea brought to the table.
You loved a scene you had envisioned.
There was something that made you passionate enough about it to start it. Try to remember that when you start to feel down on your writing. Try to remind yourself what you love about your writing.
There's this old series I did on an old blog called "Reasons I Love." It was a very long and wonderful series of posts where I'd write out why I loved my characters and WIPs. I think everyone should do that when they start to doubt themselves. Remind yourself what you love about it when you're drowning in self-doubt and needing reassurance.
Remember that your writing is wondrous and deserves so much love and support... and remind yourself that you deserve to love your writing, not constantly be filled with self-doubt and insecurities. 🩵
You've got this.
Happy writing. 💙
"I need to stop starting fandom projects so I stop disappointing people."
it's okay to disappoint people
it's okay to work slowly
it's okay to let yourself rest
it's okay to drop projects
Stop treating yourself like you are the workers at a fast food franchise.
Your writing is a hobby, don't let it turn into a source of guilt, shame and frustration instead of a source of joy.
does anyone else think about how brave all their friends are and get really emotional about it
I'm glad everyone is alive rn
It's hot here today, so lets see how our favourite band of rebels deal with moving to Alexandria
Christopher Wolfe: "I literally grew up here."
Niccolo Santi: "A bit warmer than at home, but it's really just a different shore of the same sea."
Jess Brightwell: "Why is it so hot? Who invented this heat? How are you guys not melting?!"
Thomas Schreiber (while taking apart some device): "Could be worse."
Morgan Hault: "I'll exchange heat for war at any time."
Glain Wathen: agrees with Jess but suffers in silence
Dario Santiago: "Business as usual. Fix your attitude, scrubber."
Khalila Seif: "What are you guys talking about? If anything it's a little cool!"
he would not fucking say that, but with disability.. he would not fucking be able bodied. sick n tired of characters walking away from multiple life changing injuries without a scratch. let’s get some natural consequences in here.
give that knife/sword fight survivor nerve damage. give the character who was shot in the gut a stoma. give that fire survivor lung damage and an oxygen cannula. give that leg injury survivor a cane. give that starvation survivor gastroparesis. give that spinal injury survivor a manual chair or powerchair.
while we’re at it, give your characters congenital disabilities too, just because. give them intellectual and development disabilities. give them acquired and postviral illnesses. dare to make somebody bedbound. for me.
More people should get into poly shipping. Both because polyamory is awesome and because it's really fun to make complicated ass diagrams
