What if Alec was pressured by Daisy to join Tinder and start dating again? What if he was like, “Ach, nooo,” and she was like, “Come on, dad.” So he finally gives in and lets her set up a profile.
Then later she holds up some pictures on her phone and says, “Which one?” And he picks the one who looks least like Miller (because he’s in denial), and tries to put his best foot forward to please Daisy, but his heart isn’t really in it (especially with this case going on).
And what if Daisy did it to get him out of the house because she is up to something he would very much disapprove of?
I had a little idea for a possible missing scene from episode one of Broadchurch Series 3, so here it is. It was wrote quickly and it might be a bit patchy, but I needed to write it. Spoilers for anyone who has yet to watch Episode 1.
Summary: Daisy gets home at 10:04pm, and by doing so, she realises her Dad’s new case is a cause for concern.
Characters: Alec Hardy, Daisy Hardy
Words: 967
As Daisy approached the small and cosy cottage sitting on the dark hill, she noticed enough lights were on in the house for someone else to be home.
Her Dad was home from work.
After meeting him outside of the station before leaving to mingle with her friends, she hadn’t been expecting him to be home. That wasn’t on the front of her mind, however - his warning to stay safe and to call if she needed a lift was.
You wanna talk about it?
No, sorry... how’s your homework?
That quick change of subject and the blank but sorrowful look in her father’s eyes told her everything. This new and sudden case had the potential to affect him - she'd seen it happen a few times before. And although she wouldn't admit it, she did worry.
He cared… below that gruff and stern outlook was a caring man and Daisy knew that better than most. And that was why she worried.
"Hi, Dad," Daisy announced as she opened the glass door and stepped inside, noting how warm it was inside. Her father had a tendency to sometimes have it a little too warm, but she liked it that way.
No instant reply. Instead, footsteps approached from the small hallway, and soon her father appeared. His brown eyes were glaring at her from behind the glasses perched on his nose and she got the sense he was worried.
Yep, something was definitely bothering him.
“You’re late.” No hello, no questions about if she’d had a good time or not. Any minute now, he would probably start the ‘why it’s bad to be a couple of minutes late’ speech.
“I’m not late, Dad, it’s four minutes past te-“
“It’s four minutes past, yes, and I thought I asked you to call me if you needed a lift,” he argued, even though there was really nothing to argue about. His worry for his daughter had reached a new level after the day he’d had… someone was out on the streets of Broadchurch, someone who was much too dangerous for the worry for Daisy to not reach those levels.
“I didn’t need one, okay? Some of the guys walked with me to the end of the road and then left… it’s just a few minutes, Dad, spare a thought for other people whose children are hours late. I’m fine, I promise,” she stated, taking off the small jacket she had been wearing as she walked a few steps closer to him.
Alec sighed heavily, realising he was perhaps being a little too over the top. Daisy was sensible and he was lucky she listened, especially considering the age she was. All he wanted was for het to be safe, and he kept telling himself she was there with him… not out there all alone.
With a sigh, Alec reached up and rubbed his eyes under his glasses. “M’sorry, darlin’,” he replied.
Daisy let herself lean against the sofa, keeping her eyes fixed on her Dad who was now suddenly apologetic. All her suspicions on the case had to be true. His tense greeting was all the evidence she needed.
“Dad… what’s wrong?”
Alec lowered his hand and looked a little blankly at the floor. He couldn’t tell her, wouldn’t tell her… the last thing he wanted to do was scare her. He wanted to protect her, and not telling her would do just that for a number of reasons.
“It’s nothing, just work…” he replied, trying to give her some sort of reassuring look.
“Is it this new case?”
Again, a blank stare, and Daisy could see he still wasn’t going to say anything. But then…
“Sort of,” he said, his voice just as low and gruff as normal, but with that warmness that Daisy could recognise in a crowd of millions, “can’t talk about it, darlin’. But… I was just worried about you, is all. I should trust you to walk home, and I shouldn’t have been so… so abrupt.”
“It’s fine. As long as I’m not secretly grounded or anything like that,” she replied, and to her surprise, he chuckled and smiled.
“You really think I’m that harsh?” he asked, and Daisy ended up copying his chuckle but shook head at the same time. Sometimes he was so serious that it made her feel guilty.
Alec was aware results from tests done earlier that day would soon be reaching him, and now Daisy was home safe, it took a bit of the worry from his heart… but there was something else, something else Alec often had trouble asking for. It usually ended up awkward and tense, but he wanted to ask his daughter for it.
“Fancy giving your old man a hug?” he said, closing the gap between himself and his daughter with a few long but slow strides, his arms raising from his sides lightly. The memory of him asking Miller if she wanted a hug in the bathroom came to mind… but that had been different to this.
“Oh my god, you’re such a child sometimes… yeah, you can have a hug,” Daisy replied, slipping herself up from the sofa. She was a teenager, yeah – but nothing could beat a hug from her Dad. They’d rarely done it the past few years, and it made every one all the more special.
Once she was close enough, Alec wrapped his arms around his daughter, his hand meeting the back of her head to keep her close, just like he always did. His soft blue sweater cushioned Daisy as her head met his chest, and they both seemed to let the seconds tick on for a while.
“If you need anything, you can talk to me, Dad… you should know that,” Daisy commented.
I'm in the mood to write, and I haven't been for a while and with having all these Alec Hardy feels, I would love to write something to do with Daddy Alec - anyone have any prompts I could use?
