It’s been.... Eighty-four hours since the Crisis; three and-a-half days since you all royally fucked up and almost led to the obliteration of Hoenn and probably the other regions.
It’s been four since you last slept, however.
For the past forty-eight hours, you’ve sat here and stared at the analog clock that sits on the wall across from your bed.
It’s two in the morning.
Occasionally your eyelids will droop, and your breathing will start to deepen, but then your leg will jerk, or you’ll have the inexplicable urge to cough, and you’re awake once more in a cold sweat while your heart pounds in your chest. There hasn’t been any work-- everyone’s still in shock to do much, anyway-- and Maxie hasn’t spoken a word to anyone since everyone was pulled back to base, leaving you idle for the first time in a long time. You had tried to seek council with him, but he never answered his door, so you decided to give him time to himself and shut yourself away as well.
Swallowing the dry lump in your throat, unsteady, shaking fingers move to curl around the handle of the mug filled halfway with orange juice. It was cold at one time, but you’ve only been sipping at it for the past five hours while the heat from the magma tubes brought it up to room temperature. A swig is taken, feeling foreign in the dry cavern that is your mouth before you swallow it down to get rid of the irritation in your throat.
Something whines at you when you move to sit up, alerting you to the presence of Alfie in bed with you. His jaws part in a wide yawn before he shoves his snout into your side, looking much happier now that he has your attention.
With a sigh, you scratch at his ears and mane before you reach around for his Pokéball, finding it on the floor. "Sorry, Alfie. I'll play with you later today. I promise." He looks at you sadly before his energy is returned to the ball, and for a few moments, you regret returning him to his ball because you feel a lot more lonely now.
The capsule is placed on your nightstand with Camerupt, Sarge and Belle's as you finish the last of your orange juice. In the meantime, however, before you get up to go get more, you move to check your PokéNav for any messages.
