Oh to be jayvik with their four beautiful adopted kids at that stream by their cottage 🌿
I'm surprised no one has really done a Dads AU yet though I've heard people speculate on ways they might have children, if they decided they wanted some.
I'm thinking it happens kind of by "accident" because the Eridians were messing around with both Ryland and Simon's DNA by combining them in a mishmash of different ways.
Since they had great success with cloning muscle mass to make the meburgers, they decide to try something a little more complicated and start working on different combinations to make an actual human being.
Ryland's biological material likes to cooperate just fine, but Simon's is... weird (courtesy of the blood ocean and radiation).
Eridians, however are determined and they eventually find a combination that produces a viable fetus.
They end up building an artificial womb, which is really just another zinonite cylinder that Ryland calls an egg as a joke. The zenonite molecules are sorted in a way that will prevent any harm done to the exterior of the shell, yet will easily break from enough force caused by the inside. Due to the increased gravity of Erid, average human infants can't properly develope on the planet, so the fetus will need to remain in the egg surrounded by albumen until they're aproximately the physical age of three. By then, it's expected that they will have attained the minimum amount of strength to break the egg on their own.
Ryland and Simon keep the egg in their house so that when the human is ready, they'll be nearby to care for them. It doesn't quite go as planned.
Let me know what you guys think of this and if I should do more art for this AU.

A/N: Hey, I don't touch too much on Sam's character as far has them being Trans because I'm not, and I don't want to overstep. Just know Eddie would be cool about it.... especially a tipsy Eddie.

Perfect
September 1987:
Eddie makes his rounds in the dim bar in Indy called Sweetie’s. The only lights are the neons on the walls behind the bar and a few stage lights for when the show happens. He’s been keeping his eyes peeled, for someone to catch his attention.
And sure, he’s had a few more drinks than he had planned on having, but he’s nursing a semi-broken heart.
Steve left. He went to Cincinnati for school. And really, Eddie wouldn’t blame him for getting out and never coming back. Even if Eddie knew that wouldn’t be the case. Steve would never leave his kids forever.
Eddie spots someone. Short, cute, caramel colored hair styled perfectly, nice straight nose. He smiles. They’re shorter than he is, maybe coming to his shoulder. But he leans close. “Hey.” and starts to sort of bop to the music.
“Hey.” They giggle at Eddie. “Want to dance?”
“Sure.” Eddie commits a little more to his thrashing with the beat and gets closer to his partner for the night.
“I’m Sam.” they nearly scream to be heard of the music.
“Eddie.”
They dance and drink a few more before Sam offers to take Eddie back to their place. And Eddie is more than eager. It’s what he came for. He can’t do this in Hawkins.
He looks at Sam in the lights of the parking lot. Strong arms and shoulders. Must work out, Eddie thinks.
Sam gets to the car and waves Eddie over. “You want to follow me?” then stops nervously. “Before we get too far, you should know, I’m trans.”
Sam seems to flinch and their own words. Eddie rakes his eyes up and down, taking in Sam and all the strong plains of their body. “I’m bi.” Eddie shrugs, because Sam is hot, and Eddie is bi. So it seems like a win/win.
Sam’s smile is blinding at that response. “Cool.” a blush, a sheepish look. “So, follow me?”
“I’ll be right behind you.”
They make it to Sam’s apartment and are in the closed space, barely, before Eddie takes the leap and kisses Sam. There isn’t a spark, there isn’t any magic, but Sam has nice lips and they are so hot.
In the morning, Eddie wakes up and sees Sam in the filtered sunlight. Scars across their chest and he wants to trace those lines with his fingers. To ask a million questions, because he hasn’t met a trans person before but he thinks it would be rude so he keeps it all to himself because they don’t really know each other. And Eddie has to leave soon.
He does wait for Sam to wake up and they exchange numbers. “I don’t know if you want to do this again or not, but if you’re ever in town again, just call me. I think we could be friends, Eddie, you were really cool about everything and that’s hard to find even in a place like Sweetie’s.”
“Hey, yeah, friends sounds good. I plan on being up this way every few weeks or so.” Eddie shrugs, casual. Trying to be cool and casual.
Eddie does. He goes back a few weeks later and he stays the night with Sam again. Then it kind of becomes like a plan to come up every couple of weeks to hang out and they transition to more friends that occasionally sleep together when they don’t end up with anyone else.
It’s nice and it’s easy.
November 1987:
Eddie rushes to answer the phone as he comes in from work. “Hello?”
“Eddie?” It’s Sam and it sounds like they’re crying.
“Sam? What’s wrong? Do you need me to come to you?” Because Eddie’s first instinct is to protect, and Sam had been bullied before. He knew about a guy who nearly beat their face in when he found out they were trans before they met Eddie. And it was the first thing that came to mind. “Are you hurt?”
“No, but you may want to sit down.”
Eddie’s heart and stomach hit bottom and he was braced for something terrible. “What’s wrong, Sam?”
“I’m pregnant.”
“How? We were careful.”
Sam laughed. “Apparently not careful enough. Eddie, I’m 18. I don’t know if I am ready to be a dad. I just barely got my tits cut off, I just barely started getting to live my life.” Eddie can hear the frustration in their voice.
Eddie’s stomach turned. “Yeah, Shit. What do you want to do?” Eddie didn’t like the idea of abortion, it made his stomach turn, but in the long run, it was Sam’s choice. It was their body. Their life. Well, it was both of their lives, but ultimately, Sam was the one with the power of choice.
After several moments of silence, Sam quietly offered, “Adoption? I was thinking about adoption.” Sam explained the choice. How their sister had fertility issues and adopted a newborn from a teen mom a few years before. And how that was the happiest they had ever seen their sister and her husband. “Maybe I can do that for someone else. If you’re ok with it?”
“Yeah, I mean, I need to think about it. Ok? I just. It’s a lot, but I love the idea. Please, can I think about it?” Eddie didn’t know why at twenty he was shy about adoption. He didn’t feel at ease with it.
That was his baby.
“Yeah, Eddie, take time. Are you coming up this weekend? Maybe we need to talk?”
“Yeah, I can be there.” He hadn’t planned on it, but this was kind of a big deal.
Eddie spends every weekend with Sam now, making sure they are ok. Body dysmorphia is a real impending threat for them as their stomach grows.
They find a doctor that is willing to see them and not make a big deal about Sam. He sees them through the entire pregnancy. The first time they see their baby on the ultrasound, Eddie makes up his mind.
Eddie tells Sam, “I don’t think I can give her away.”
Sam looks terrified.
“But you don’t have to keep her, too. I can take her. You can sign away your rights and be Uncle Sam. Or not be in her life at all if it’s too much. Or we can figure that out later.”
Sam nods. “I understand, Ed, I do. You will be a great dad. I can be uncle Sam, that sounds perfect.”
June 1988:
Eddie is the proud papa of a little girl. “Sam, you did so good.” He says as he coos at his little girl.
“What are you naming her?” Sam smiles, exhausted and sore, but happy for them.
“Elanor Elizabeth Munson.” He smiles back at the person responsible for his greatest joy.
June 1990:
Steve comes back to Hawkins, with his degree and his old beemer. He took classes each summer so he could finish sooner.
His parents are selling their old house and want Steve to come get anything he might want to keep. They are finally taking the plunge and moving to Chicago. He pulls up to the gray house and is surprised to see most everything packed up already except his room.
His mom gives him a stilted hug and welcomes him back home. His dad is arguing to someone on the phone and barely acknowledges him.
“So you have a job lined up?” His mom asks.
“Yeah, here at the middle school actually.”
She just hums in response and tells the movers what to take on the moving van. “Well, I am going to give you some money for your graduation present. Should be enough to cover some rent somewhere for a few months until your job starts up. I know you won't start until August, right?”
“Right, thanks, mom.” Steve says genuinely. He didn’t expect anything from them. And he is nearly certain his dad isn’t aware his mom is doing this. She hands him a thick envelope, and he sees it’s stuffed with hundreds. “Thank you.”
She pats his cheek. “You’ll need to get your things out before the weekend. There’s showings starting then.”
“Sure mom. I will make sure to do that.”
Steve took a box or two of things that he wanted, but most of his photos and things were already with the rest of the stuff he was moving to his new place this week.
He said goodbye to his parents before heading to the little house he was going to be renting until he found something more permanent. It was a tiny one bed one bath that was in a little neighborhood not far from the Henderson house.
He has a few things he brought with his car, but most of it is coming in the moving truck tomorrow.
He unpacks what he has and decides to head to the grocery store.
Melvald’s is busy when he parks his car near the back of the lot. He has a list and he is reading over it as he moves up and down the aisles.
He gives a big smile as he hears a little girl singing some made up song that’s half words and half babbles in her seat in the buggy on the other side of the aisle. When he sees her, his heart kind of pauses a moment.
The little girl looks like she could be Steve’s child. She has the same caramel hair and a similar complexion. She is adorable and it makes Steve's chest ache.
His first thought is he knocked some girl up and this is his kid. He looks around for the mom when he sees a curly bun next to the cart. The person is squatting and Steve cannot tell who she is. Did he sleep with her?
He is trying to get a good look. He takes in the body, long legs, nice small butt in tight jeans, and from behind there isn’t a lot he can tell.
The person then stretches and stands up.
“Eddie?” Steve says-shocked. Looking dumbfounded and wondering why the hell Eddie is here with someone else’s kid.
“Hey, Steve! Nice to see you!.” Eddie automatically hugs his friend. “Are you finally visiting us? I thought you forgot about us.” The razzing is meant light but it feels weighted.
“I got done in three years because I didn’t take summers off. So yeah, I am back for good. Eddie. Whose kid is that?”
Eddie turns and acts surprised, hand flying up to his heart. “Ah a toddler!” Then he laughs. “She’s mine.”
Steve gets closer and smiles at her. “Hi, I am Steve. Aren’t you a cutie?”
She just smiles at him.
“Who is the mom?”
Eddie stiffens a little and just looks at Steve. “We should catch up.” He gets close and quiet so the kid won’t hear him, Steve thinks. “She doesn’t have a mom, actually. Long story.”
“We should get dinner, Ed.” Something in Steve’s gut that had been tight since Eddie said it was his kid, loosens. No mom. No girlfriend or wife or whatever. Good. “I would love to take you out. I have things to catch up with you, too.”
Like I have totally been in love with you for years and that is why I worked so hard to get back here as quickly as I could, he adds in his head.
He turns back to the girl and asks her name. “Ellie!” she says proudly.
“Elanor Elizabeth Munson.” Adds Eddie.
“Best name ever!” Steve tells the giggling girl.
“I will see if Wayne can watch her tonight.”
“Yeah, here’s my new number. I just got the phone hooked up at my place, so call me, and we’ll make plans.”
“You got it, big boy.”
Steve answers on the first ring. Whipped already, Jesus.
“Hello?”
“Stevieeeeee.”
“Hey, Eddie.”
“I was thinking we can hit the diner for old times sake, yeah?”
“Sounds good. Like thirty minutes?”
“Sounds great, I will see you there, yeah?”
“Yep. See you there.”
Steve changes to less rumpled clothes, he had been unpacking all day and he was exhausted. He sprays some of his cologne on and rushes to the diner.
Eddie hugs him again when they meet up in the parking lot. Steve holds on for maybe a little too long. Eddie smells less like weed and cigarettes like he used to and more like him. And it's nice, Steve thinks.
They get a table and order before finally settling into talk.
“You want to go first?”
“No, you go first,” Steve says with a smile.
“Shew, ok. So, you left for school, and I got a little… down. I missed my friend, and well, I went up to Indy and hit a bar up there. Got super wasted and went home with someone. Sam. Well, then we became friends, I would go visit them every other weekend or so and we would just hook up if we didn’t find someone else.” He shrugs it off. “When they called me and told me about Ellie, they wanted to put her up for adoption. They were just eighteen so they didn’t want to have a kid yet.”
Steve thinks that was totally understandable.
“But I couldn’t just let her go once we saw her on the sonogram, so I gave Sam an out. Sign away their rights, and I would raise her alone. And she gets a dad in me and an Uncle Sam from Sam. That way, we both get what we want, Sam can still live their life and I got my baby out of it.”
“So Sam is Uncle Sam?”
“Sam is trans.” Eddie waits for a reaction, but Steve just nods and takes a sip of his milkshake.
“So, Sam isn’t in her life much?” This was a lot to take in. But Steve would process later on the whole Sam thing. It doesn’t seem like they are in love or even dating.
“Sam visits a couple of times a year, we visit Sam, too. And Sam makes sure to send her presents on her birthday and at Christmas. But this works for us.”
Steve laughs as he admits, “I am going to be honest, when I saw her at the store I thought I had left someone here knocked up.”
“Yeah, Sam reminded me of you, only shorter.” Eddie says. Testing the waters with that one, Eddie thinks. And he watches Steve for his reaction.
“Right.” And Steve is blushing. “You missed me, huh?” He teases Eddie.
And huh.
“I did.” Eddie gives him a look.
And Oh.
And Steve looks at him. “Oh.”
“Oh.” Eddie nods.
“Thank God.” Steve says and Eddie laughs. “I wanted to come back because I missed you, too, Eddie.” He pauses only a moment. “A lot.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“But?” Eddie asks. Because now it isn’t just him. It’s him and Ellie. They are a package now.
“But what? I haven’t changed my mind. God, I have been so nervous to talk to you about this,” Steve admitted. “I have wanted you for so long. I thought distance and time might dim that want, but I-ah- still do. If you want me, too?”
Eddie grabbed his hand with his own warm calloused hand. “We can give it a try.” Eddie gives Steve his biggest smile, and Steve returns it.
“When I first got to Cincinnati, I missed you so much, and I thought it was just normal missing one of my best friends. Then the longer I was away, I was like this isn’t like normal missing a friend. My heart ached for you. And I called Robin– I can’t wait til she is done with school, too. But I called her and had a breakdown over the phone.” Steve laughs a little. “That was before I sent you the first letter.”
“I have them all, too.” Eddie thought about the dozens of letters he has from Steve over the last three years. Steve would send him little things that reminded Steve of Eddie and tell him about school and the friends he had there.
Steve blushes again. “I kept yours, too.” He confesses. Steve pays the tab and then they walk towards the door.
“Ellie and I live in a double-wide right next door to Wayne,” Eddie says. “They replaced all the trailers in fall of 86 so it's a nice one. You should come over and see it.”
“Yeah, I think I will.”
Steve drives the familiar path to the Trailer park and pulls in next to the truck Eddie is driving now. He waves at Wayne who is sitting on the porch of his own trailer.
“Is she napping?” Eddie asks.
“Yeah, you just come over and get her later, she’s fine.” Wayne waves them off. He finishes his cigarette and goes back in.
Steve and Eddie go into his trailer. It is new and very nice. There are toys everywhere and Eddie uses his patented, “Sorry, cleaner took the week off” joke.
Steve waves it off then just comes close. He pulled Eddie close. “Shut up and come here.” Steve says and pulls Eddie’s face to his own, kissing him.
Eddie giggles and kisses back.
Steve’s hands come up to Eddie's hair and hold him close.
This was what a kiss should feel like, Eddie is sure. There is the spark, the magic that had been missing with everyone else. Steve has him backed into the kitchen counter, their hips moving against one another’s. It’s not long before they are both hard.
Eddie pulls away, “I could give you the grand tour, first stop, my bedroom?”
“Yeah, let’s do that.” Steve breathes out.
It’s like he’s been holding his breath for the last three years just hoping. He knew Eddie was bi. There had been lots of drinking with the rest of the older teens before they all left for school. Argyle had supplied some California grass, and there had been a lot of sharing. Argyle was what they call pansexual. He had said he liked people for who they are not their genders. He also said he could read auras and that was a big factor, too.
Nancy had confessed to liking both, but not realizing that was ok until recently. Jon had supported her in that and they ended up breaking up in the friendliest way ever.
Robin had finally come out to everyone else, and that prompted Eddie to tell them he was Bi as well. And Steve should have realized then, he felt relieved to know that. He felt- hopeful- when he heard that.
Now as he enters Eddie’s room, complete with a queen size bed and clean floors, Steve is finally getting to live out the dreams that started that night. Well, probably before that night, but the ones that really solidified that night.
Kissing Eddie is fantastic. His lips are soft and warm and a little dry.
“Stevie, baby, do you want to take this slow?” he asks.
“Absolutely not. I have been waiting years for this. It's already been taken slow.”
Eddie thinks back to their letters and he sees them with new light. The words Steve chose, carefully. The care and attention each little present had held within those letters.
Steve had been courting him via letter, and- he is so stupid- he didn’t even see that.
They slowly undress. Taking their time with each piece, Steve makes sure to lavish each inch of skin on Eddie as he uncovers it.
Steve takes Eddie into his mouth, he hasn’t ever done this before, but he has received it numerous times. He knows what feels good. Tucking his lips over his teeth, he sinks as far as he can.
“Steve.” Eddie groans out. And that makes Steve smile. He feels his confidence come to life.
He sets a furious pace, hollowing out his cheeks.
Eddie pulls him up a few moments later. “I do not want to come down your throat today, sweetheart.” and brings Steve up for more kissing.
He reaches over and gets the lube he has in his night stand and begins working his fingers into Steve. Slow and methodically, opening him up and teasing him at the same time. Brushing over the spot that makes him jerk and moan, then leaving it alone then brushing against it again randomly. Smirking, he takes Steve into his mouth as he inserts a third finger and oh the sounds that come from Steve.
“Jesus, Eddie, fuck.” His hips raise up on their own. Eddie moans around Steve sending vibrations through the younger man’s soul. Steve took his turn pulling Eddie back to him. “Just fuck me already, Munson.”
“Aye, aye, captain.” Eddie says with a smile.
He is slowly pressing in and watching Steve to make sure he is ok. “Just, please, Eddie.” Steve encourages.
“I don’t want to hurt you, love.” is all Eddie says as he continues his slow journey. Once he’s in, “You feel like heaven.”
Steve is wriggling, wanting to feel Eddie move, to feel Eddie take him apart. Eddie’s forehead is on his shoulder and he need Eddie to move, to fuck him.
Eddie pulls out and thrusts back in and starts to get his groove and Steve feels a flood of relief that this is actually and really happening. All these pretty noises mingle from the two as they collide over and over. Slapping skin, slick squelching, and the harmonious moans of two people in love.
Eddie’s hand wraps around Steve as he moves. His fingers still slick from earlier and he pumps Steve in tandem to their hips thrusting.
“Eddie, so close.” Steve says, and it's strained. His face is red, and his eyes are blown.
“Want you to come, Steve. I want nothing more than to make you feel so good.” And Steve sees the same fucked out look in Eddie’s wide brown eyes. The pretty pink flush all over his normally ivory body and cheeks.
“You are so pretty, Eddie. So fucking beautiful. I love you.”
And Steve knows it’s too soon, and just the right time, and a long time coming all at once. He has loved Eddie for years. And he does now, at this moment. He loves him.
“Stevie, I love you, always have.” Eddie responds, because it’s the truth. And he’s always been scared of the truth, but here it is.
He feels Steve’s hot slick come as it coats his hand and that, that sends him. He is coming inside of Steve, hips stuttering.
They kiss, sloppy and wet kisses as they stay connected for as long as they can, until softening, Eddie slips out of Steve.
And how is life supposed to get more perfect than this?
January 1991:
“That’s the last of it.” Steve put the last box down in the bedroom that had basically become his already.
“I am glad you just had a six month lease.”
“Me too, Eds. I am glad to be able to officially call this place home now.”
The sweet squealing of Ellie fills the trailer as she runs from one end to the other making her pony fly. She loves her fantasy world, she got that from her daddy.
And Steve loves her. He loves her like his own.
Her caramel colored hair is wild and curly and seems to be growing out instead of down. Her big brown eyes are the best at making puppy eyes. She has Steve wrapped around her little finger. And best yet, she calls him papa Steeb. And one day, he hopes she’ll like just calling him papa. But that is her choice. He’ll love her no matter what she decides to call him as she gets older.
Eddie comes up and wraps his arms around Steve as he watches Ellie play. He kisses Steve’s cheek and tells him they can worry about unpacking tomorrow if he just wants to play with Ellie before bed.
Steve picks her up and runs her through the trailer, making pony sounds and Ellie’s giggles grow tenfold.
And Eddie thinks he was wrong before. This is perfect.

Hi!! Thank you for the compliments! Rn I'm just blanket accepting anyone who asks to follow my twitter, bc like you said it's locked for AI scraping reasons rather than wanting to limit my following. You can go ahead and request! Or, if you'd like to wait, I will be archiving the whole thing once it's finished and I've finessed it a little, though probably on my new squidgeworld rather than ao3.
Happy Halloween!
