Request from Anon: Omg could you write something where May is practically begging Peter to ask Stark!reader to prom or homecoming (because she’s homeschooled and doesn’t get those opportunities) but he’s a hundred percent sure she hates him but it’s the complete opposite?
A/N: Hey sorry if this isn’t great, I’m really trying to start writing again and it’s difficult with how busy I am now.
“No way, May! I can’t. It’s not happening.” Peter’s voice was higher than normal, clearly upset with what his aunt was suggesting.
“Please Peter, I’m sure she would love it. You know she’s not getting the same experiences as you.” May argued, she’d win this if it killed her.
“So?” Peter asked, “That’s not my fault, it’s Mr. Stark’s! I shouldn’t have to take someone that obviously hates me to my senior prom.”
May tisked, “She does not. You’re being dramatic.”
“No I’m not! Besides, she probably wouldn’t even say yes to me asking her! I’m not going to embarrass myself.”
“Peter Benjamin Parker,” May reached across their kitchen table and placed her hand on his arm. “We all know you have feelings for her. Just give it a shot, please? I missed my senior prom and regret it terribly. I don’t want Y/N to miss her chance too.”
Peter hated when his aunt pulled his full name. Hated even more when she guilted him, he couldn’t say no now. He sighed heavily. “Alright… but if she says no it’s not my fault and know I’m never going to be able to show my face at the tower ever again.”
May smiled excitedly, “Thank you.”

“So your aunt tells me you’re asking Y/N to go to prom with you,” Tony said, just as Peter entered the lab.
Peter groaned, “Aunt May told you?”
“Yes she told me. I’m the one who suggested it.”
He could only stare at Tony in shock. “What?”
“I went to 23 prom’s Peter, they were a blast. I’m not gonna let my kid miss out on something like that just because I have her home schooled. Plus everyone knows you like her take the chance kid.”
“I can’t believe you’re the one that set me up for this humiliation.”
Tony shrugged, “i think you’d be surprised. Now go get it over with.”
“N-now?” Peter asked, a wave of nerves washed over his gut, he was not ready to face you in the slightest.
“Why not? You’re prom’s only two weeks away.”
“Uh- well- I-“
“What are you stuttering over this time spider?” You had just entered the lab and Peter was fumbling over his words. You loved hearing him nervous, it was adorable, not that you’d ever tell him that. He thought you hated him, which definitely made him not like you. But really you just got nervous and didn’t know how to flirt so you ended up being mean.
Peter sighed, then turned to face you.
“I have to go take a phone call in private,” your dad informed, heading out past you.
“I thought you had to talk to me about something!” You called to his back, exasperated with him.
He ignored you.
Rolling your eyes you turned to leave Peter, figuring he probably wouldn’t want you around anyway.
“Hey, wait,” Peter started quickly. He knew this was a set up. He’d be mad at Tony later, right now he knew he had to get this over with.
You stopped, something about the situation you were in seemed suspicious and made your stomach knot. Turning back to look at him you cocked your head. “Yeah?”
“Okay, I feel real stupid for asking but I don’t really have a choice in the matter and I’m sure you’ll say no anyway but would you wanna go with me to my prom?” He said it so quickly all you really heard was him asking you to prom.
You were stunned, but also excited. “Yeah of course I will.”
“Okay that’s totally alrig- wait did you just say yes?” Peter thought you were going to say no, so much so he almost didn’t pay attention to your real answer. So when you confirmed that you would he was real surprised.
“You were really ready for me to say no there,” you pointed out, the feeling that maybe he didn’t want you there to begin with floated through your mind.
“Well I wasn’t sure you’d want to go to a dance, where you don’t know anybody, just to go.” He rubbed the back of his neck, keeping the thought of you hating him hidden.
“You’ll be there,” you said simply. You could have argued with him, ask him if he even wanted you to go. Tell him he better not just have asked to take Tony Stark’s daughter to his prom to show off. Or maybe that your dad put him up to it. But instead you turned and left him there in the lab. Immediately going to your room to act like the giddy teenager that just got asked to prom by the guy you like, like you were.

When the day finally came Peter was nervous and dreading it. He was hoping to have fun tonight, but now he was going to be worrying about not pissing you off and not being embarrassed by jerks at school. He definitely didn’t think he was going to have fun. You were probably going to be mean to him. What reason did you have not to be. He was just your way in. You’d probably end up with someone else for all he knew!
But, when he arrived to pick you up he pushed everything aside. He couldn’t help but focus on how beautiful you looked. Your dress fit you in all the right places. Your hair was perfect and so was your makeup.
Seeing the look on his face made you blush. You went over to him and punched his arm. “Stop staring. Is that for me?”
“S-sorry,” he apologized quickly, his eyes darting away. He held out a corsage to you.
“Yeah,” he answered simply.
“Alright you two,” Tony said entering the living room. “I promised May I would take some pictures of you two. So get together and smile you’re gonna have a great night.”
The two of you did as Tony said, wide smiles spread across both your faces just after you put the flower on your wrist and his corsage on his jacket.
You grabbed Peter’s wrist, “Bye dad!” You called from the elevator. You were ready to get to this dance. While you were nervous about tonight not being good, you were very excited to go to a prom.
The ride down was quiet, the limo that your dad had rented for the two of you was awkwardly quiet, and you thought Peter was just going to act like you weren’t there all night. So, you stopped him before getting out of the car.
“Peter,” He finally looked at you, and he could tell you were nervous, you could see it on his face. “Look, I know I’m hard to get along with but… if you don’t want me here I’m not going to bother embarrassing myself by going in there and being ditched…”
He frowned at you, the concern in your eyes making him feel awful about not even letting you take a chance to be nice. “I’d never ditch you, Y/N. And I never said I didn’t want you here.”
“Well face it Peter, you were ready for me to say no, you mentioned not having a choice which says to me that you were forced to ask me whether by my dad or your aunt I guess it doesn’t really matter. You obviously don’t want me to be here with you, so why don’t you go have a great time and the driver and I will come back to pick you up later. How’s that sound?” You couldn’t even look at him as you spoke. You weren’t sure why it was suddenly spilling from your lips. It hurt though.
Peter stared at you. He really felt bad now. He took a deep breath. “Listen, you’re going in there with me. I’m sorry I’ve made you feel that way but you hate me, who's to say you won’t be the one ditching me tonight? Yeah, I asked because my aunt made me ask you. And you know, I probably wouldn’t be mean back to you if you weren’t mean to me first. It’s hard to like someone that’s mean to you all the time. But here I like you anyway and I asked you even though I thought you’d say no. And now I just don’t get you at all. Even more than before.” He huffed and put his head back against the seat.
“I like you too,” you said it, your voice so shy he almost didn’t believe you were the one saying it.
His head snapped to look at you.
You glanced at him wearily. “I’m sorry I’m mean… I don’t try to be… I just can’t help it okay? I don’t exactly have any experience with liking someone. It scares me. And I don’t exactly have a perfect role model for relationships. I just end up being mean and I’m sorry. I don’t mean to. I like you a lot and it made me so happy that you asked me to come with you tonight.”
Peter sighed then offered you his hand. “I’m beyond willing to try this if you promise you’ll work on not being so mean all the time.”
You slid your hand into his, “I promise.”
He smiled, kissed your hand, and the two of you finally got out of the car.
It was an amazing night, you couldn’t have asked for a better one.
