You’d thrown her off. You could tell. 

Lizzie’s smile was dimmed. She leaned her chin against her hand, watching you from the other side of the small party. Her forehead was furrowed, her finger touched her lower lip without her realising.

You looked down at your drink. It was all your fault.

You’d been close friends for years. For a long time, you’d floated around in the same social circles, never really saying more than a few words to each other. 

Then, there’d been a slightly too drunk get together organised by a mutual friend. 

That evening quickly became something unexpectedly perfect. You’d spent hours talking with her in someone else’s backyard, wrapped in old blankets that you’d found when she’d started shivering. You talked for hours about every subject, laughing more than you’d ever laughed with someone before. 

When you left that party in the early morning, you’d wondered if this was one of those magic nights. Or, if Lizzie might really become a friend. 

She called you the next afternoon and answered your question with her nonchalant greeting and conversation.

Her friendship quickly became the best part of your life. 

Life doesn’t follow the routes you expect. This was one of the good unexpected turns. 

Lizzie was not lowkey. That was a common misconception. 

You remembered the first time she called you from a Whole Foods. It had taken a ten minute ramble about grocery choices until you realised the subtle anxiety in her voice. The fear of making a mistake, the many ways it could manifest. 

She apologised after the call. A line of texts, where she made fun of herself. 

The world shifted on its axis and you saw Lizzie clearly then. 

‘Call me whenever, I’ll never mind.’ You’d replied simply.

Lizzie didn’t trust easily. That was true.

It’s how you knew you were special. It was so easy to find a rhythm with her, to live on the same wavelength.

Every year for her birthday, you spent the day together. Every year, you told her that you loved her. That she’d made your year better.

Lizzie would smile, roll her eyes and wrap you in a hug. 

You knew that you were special to her but you’d been careful not to jump to conclusions. 

Until, of course, you’d said something stupid. Something honest. And Lizzie had left.

Now, at the party, as you refilled your drink and tried to ignore the loud music, you realised that you’d likely ruined everything.

The thought settled on your shoulders like a heavy weight, a ready nausea filling your throat. You left your untouched drink on a side-table. You craned your neck, scouting for Lizzie in the crowd.

You saw her dim silhouette on the small balcony and headed over. 

Her pale face turned towards you as you slid open the french doors. Lizzie was sitting on an ancient wicker chair that looked close to collapse. It creaked as she moved to face you.

‘We should talk.’ You suggested softly.

Lizzie’s long hair shifted over her shoulder as she nodded in agreement. Her fingers trailed the edge of the balcony railing. 

‘Did you always like me like that?’ She asked abruptly. ‘Is that why you started talking to me?’

Her cool tone made you nervous. You wondered if this was pointless, if everything had already unravelled.

‘No.’ You answered slowly, careful in your honesty. ‘Just a little bit more every day.’

Lizzie’s expression faltered. You could tell it wasn’t what she’d expected. She crossed her legs and you couldn’t help but notice her bare skin.

‘Since I got bigger movie deals?’ Lizzie asked, accusation barely hidden. 

A flash of hurt ran through you.

‘No.’ You tried to keep a level tone. ‘Since the day you called me at Whole Foods.’

Lizzie shook her head.

‘That doesn’t make sense.’ She said quietly.

You shrugged, staying silent as sadness rolled through you. This felt pointless, you’d already lost her. You’d already made the confession that you couldn’t undo. A wave of grief was burgeoning. You wondered if you’d drown. 

You slipped your arms out of your sweater and pulled it over your head.

‘Every year, I spend Valentine’s Day excited that your birthday is only two days away.’ You told her quietly. You handed her your sweater and nodded down to her bare legs, hoping she’d use it as a blanket. She always got cold on nights like these.

‘I’m sorry I fucked it up.’ You told her softly. Lizzie’s eyes reflected distant stars back at you. 

You walked back into the party with the distinct feeling that you were no longer yourself.

With no alcohol in you, you decided to leave and walk the few streets back to your place. The cold air countered the twisted grief burning up your insides.

You walked with a mind full of Lizzie. 

Valentine’s Day was tomorrow. You couldn’t care less, not anymore. 

You thought about her birthday in three days. You tried not to think about her smile, about how quickly a person can become a memory. You hoped Lizzie wouldn’t be alone for it.

You turned the corner of your street. 

Lizzie was stepping out of an Uber at your front door. She was wearing your sweater, her hair was caught beneath it. She straightened at the sight of you, raising her hand in a tentative wave.

You walked closer, heart in your mouth. Unfiltered surprise was running through your veins.

‘Why Whole Foods?’ Lizzie asked when you were in hearing distance. ‘Why did it start then?’

You laughed suddenly, at the most obvious unanswerable question in the world.

‘Why not?’ You countered. ‘It had to happen some time.’

Lizzie watched you like you were something brand new. A silence fell between you before she spoke again.

‘Valentine’s Day is tomorrow.’ Lizzie told you seriously, fingers playing with the sleeves of your sweater. ‘We have nothing planned, and I actually had other plans. Not with anyone, not anything like that. But, I’d still have to cancel them. And I had errands to run in the afternoon.’

You recognised the familiar tone of Lizzie’s anxiety. You realised suddenly that she was just scared. 

You took her hand, twining your fingers and giving a quick squeeze.

‘We could just get groceries.’ You suggested with a soft smile.

Lizzie let out a shaky breath, her lips quirked upwards. She squeezed your hand back.

‘Yeah.’ She teased. ‘You’d like that.’

Switch {Avengers!Cast x Teen!Reader}

Requested by: Anonymous Wordcount: 2498 Summary: You, a teenage star, recently starred in the newest Avengers film alongside the core six, and during your interview, something dark from the past arises.

Watching yourself on the screen was cringe. You know you weren’t the only actor who thought this, a lot of them did, but this was more personal than just watching a trailer or an approved scene from a movie that was coming out soon. This wasn’t part of the publicity tour for the new Avengers movie that you were taking part of. This showed you at seven years old - only eight years ago - acting your little heart out in the soap opera that you had been in. Five years of your life spent basically living on the set. Working every legal hour that they could get you to work, and then spending the rest of your time being home schooled, and memorizing the script, and acting classes, and being dragged to meetings because your parents never thought that your agent was good enough. How many had you met before you nearly gave up acting for good? Dozens. Maybe even a hundred.

It was a montage of you through the five years that you worked on the set of that show. Five very defining years, going from eight to thirteen, the camera catching your growth. And the embarrassing start of puberty too. The way that your voice changed, the way that the make-up department tried to minimize the look of your aging because your character was still supposed to be young. You remembered it - but not fondly. Not fondly at all.

It was made all the worse by your colleagues around you. Your esteemed colleagues. Sitting with you on The Tonight Show Staring Jimmy Fallon was Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner, the stars of the Avengers film. You had been in the movie with them, working closely with Robert in particular, playing his daughter. Morgan Stark. An up and coming Avenger herself, who would appear in more Marvel films in the future. Your contract definitely ensured that you would have to be open to filming whenever the studio wanted. But for once, you were happy to do it.

Not like in the times that you were looking at. A lot of people, especially young actors like yourself, were jealous of your long-standing career. Breaking into it as a child isn’t as easy as people think - especially if you didn’t have connections in the industry. Your parents weren’t celebrities, or big time executives. They were both university professors, helping you to achieve what you had thought was your dream, when really, it was making you give up on it faster and faster.

“I heard that your co-actors didn’t even know that you had been on a soap opera for five years,” Jimmy said, once the montage was finished. You could feel the surprised glances around you, making you shrink into yourself just a little. Be confident. Own everything. That was advice you were constantly given and you tried to do it now.

“Yeah, I never really brought it up,” You admitted, sheepishly. You could see the surprise on Chris Evans’ face, since he was sitting next to you, those blue eyes intrigued. “I guess I figured that if they wanted to know my acting background, it’s on the internet.” But you backtracked quickly with a laugh. “No, they’re a great bunch of people. They definitely made me feel included whenever I was around them and they wanted to get to know the person that I am now, so the past didn’t come up all that much.”

“Well, from what we’ve heard, if you’re alright with talking about this -” Jimmy said, looking to you for permission. You already knew exactly what he was going to bring up. It had been brought up in the pre-interview, where topics that were on and off the table were discussed, to make the show go smoothly. On this topic, you’d been a little antsy.

“I can talk about it a little, though it’s not the most comfortable topic,” You said, another nervous laugh coming over you. Even thinking about the past made you feel like you were being flattered by an eighteen-wheeler. “What Jimmy is alluding to is the way that … I was treated on the set of Midnight Orchids.”

The surrpise turned more to concern. Scarlett, on the other side of you, put an arm around your shoulders.

“I’m not going to say any names,” You said, slowly, looking down at your hands, your nails painted and done really nice for this occasion. Your thumb slid over, feeling the raised edges of the nail gems. “But umm - yeah, it was hard. And it made me want to give up acting entirely. I did, for a while, actually. I went back home after my contract was finished, and I focused on myself, on my studies.”

“And you’re a college student at the age of fifteen,” Jimmy said with a nod. “Now that’s impressive. Probably more impressive than your acting career.”

“Thanks,” You said, a grin finally coming over your face. Your education was something that you were quite proud of. That you actually felt like you worked on. “My parents are both professors so - I got a really good head start on that,” You chuckled, a few audience members laughing along with you. You were glad that you were able to coattail the awkward discussion.

“So what made you want to get back into acting?” Jimmy asked, continuing your part of the interview. “What made you try out for this role?”

“It was a dare, actually,” You admitted with another laugh. “I still have an agent, even though I’m not acting anymore. My parents kept her on retainer in case I wanted to get back into it, so I still hear about some upcoming roles. When I heard Marvel, my best friend Julia -” I paused and then totally had to give her some credit. “Julia Butters, amazing actress, amazing person, hey you,” You chuckled.

“Julia Butters dared you to try out for a Marvel film?” Jimmy asked, trying to get back on track.

“Yeah, and I thought - why not? It was unlikely that I would get it. I was on hiatus for a while. But maybe I’d get a chance to see Scarlett or Evans,” You said, getting a chuckle from the two on either side of you. “When I read the script for the audition, I ended up loving the scene, and got more into it than I thought I would. After a couple of callbacks - well, here I am.”

“Here you are,” Jimmy replied, and then his questions went to the other actors, giving them their due attention. You were relieved to have the spotlight off of you, but Scarlett’s arm remained around your shoulder, her fingers comforting you as they traced little circles. She had been young when she started acting, nine when she started in movies, so she understood how harsh Hollywood could be to kids. She’d become like a favorite aunt to you during filming, becoming close, like a mentor. You could still feel the lingering eyes of your castmates as they were wondering what you had been hiding, what kind of mistreatment you had undergone, but none one of them mentioned it while the cameras were rolling.

The interview came towards an end and you shook Jimmy’s hand, exchanging compliments on how well it all went and how it was nice to meet one another. It was definitely something to check off your bucketlist. It was definitely better than other interviews that you had been apart of. The questions hadn’t been invasive in any way, and he was definitely respectful of your boundaries. You even had a little fun.

You went back to the dressing room hallway, heading to yours when Robert Downey Jr stopped you, handing you a soda that he had gotten from catering.

“Here, you look like you could use this,” He said with his usual monotone-type voice, though he had a bit of a smirk on his lips. You were used to him talking that way, used to him in general. Since you played his daughter, you had spent the most time with him on set.

“Thanks,” You smiled back, taking it. Of course it was your favorite kind. He had picked up things about you over time. “That was fun. Is Fallon usually so on point?”

“Yeah, he’s a cool guy,” Robert said. “Come on, the guys and I want to talk to you for a moment.”

“Oh no,” You groaned, following him. “Did I accidentally slander someone? I really didn’t mean to.”

“It’s not that,” Robert assured. You walked into the green room to find the cast, your friends, sitting around chatting. Their expressions, even Chris Hemsworth’s which usually had some sort of smile - were serious. The conversation quieted when you walked in, making you feel as if you had been the topic.

“Hey guys, what’s up?” You asked, attempting to stay casual. Scarlett moved over so that you could sit next to her and you snapped that seat up, leaning back against the sofa. “What’s the matter? Robert said I didn’t slander anyone so -“

“You didn’t,” Jeremy confirmed Robert’s narrative. “Though maybe you should have.”

“Y/N…” Mark Ruffalo said, leaning forward. He was sitting across from you, all dark curls and a fatherly worry in his eyes. “Why didn’t you tell us that you had been mistreated before?”

You furrowed your eyebrows. “I mean, it was the past,” You reasoned. “It’s not like I’m going through that now. Besides, my parents got me away from it and - you’re not like that at all-“

“But are they still working?” Mark asked. He was a big activist for many things - environmental justice, climate change, social justice issues. It made sense, you supposed, that his ears would have perked up about this. That he would be so focused on it. “The people that treated you like that?”

“I think so,” You said, slowly. “I don’t follow their careers or anything. Other than when I made sure that they weren’t a part of this franchise. I probably wouldn’t have auditioned if I thought that they would be.”

They all looked at one another. Scarlett put her arm around your shoulder and you realized then that this was going to be the topic of conversation for a while. As much as you didn’t want to talk about it, it was sort of nice to see that they cared so much.

“What are their names?” Mark urged. You bit on the inside of your cheek, contemplating telling him, and then shook your head.

“No,” I said. “I’m not going to go around talking shit about other actors. Really, guys, I’m alright. I went to therapy and everything, it’s all worked out. They didn’t give me a complex.”

“It’s not just about you,” Robert said. He was sitting next to Mark, his dark eyes on you. “If they’re still working, especially around other young people … it could still be happening.”

He had a point. You hadn’t thought of that. If it happened to you, then it could have happened to a lot of people.

“But I am glad that you’re okay,” Chris Evans added, and he shot you a smile. Your stomach did a small roll inside of your body, getting affected by it. Who could handle a smile from Chris Evans and not feel some kind of way?

“Yeah, course we are,” Chris Hemsworth said, his easy-going Australian accent came out. “You’re a strong one. We just want to make sure that this doesn’t happen to someone who isn’t as strong as ya.”

You kept thinking about it now. It was bigger than you, wasn’t it? So wasn’t it your obligation?

You opened our mouth, a name on the tip of your tongue, when our phone started to go off in your pocket. A faint look of irritation went across Mark’s face, and a sheepish sort of laugh came out of Chris Evans.

“Get that first,” He said, encouraging you. “We can talk after.”

Saved by the ring.

You pulled out your phone and saw that it was your manager on the line. You apologized and stepped out of the room into the hallway to take the call, feeling relieved that the awkward moment could be put off for a couple of minutes longer.

“Hey Mr Driscoll, what’s up?” You said, cheerfully. It wasn’t entirely genuine, but he couldn’t tell the difference. You were just a good actor.

“Just wanted to see how my favorite actress is doing,” The friendly voice on the other side of the line said, making you chuckle. He called you that every time that you talked to him. And despite knowing that he said that to all of his female clients, you were cheered up by it.

“I’m doing well, just finished here at Fallon. Hanging out for a little while before my car comes to pick me up. How are you?”

“I’m doing good, doing good, thank you, thank you,” My manager said. “I just called to tell you some good news.”

“Oh?” You were like a dog that heard a whistle, your entire countenance growing excited at the prospect. “Come on, spill!”

“So impatient,” He teased you. “I hope you’ve got an outfit picked out for the Oscars, because you might just be walking the stage.”

Stunned.

“What do you mean?” You asked. “Am I presenting something? That’s so awkward, I wouldn’t know what to -“

“No, no,” Your manager said with a chuckle. “You’re nominated.”

“I’m - I’m what?”

You couldn’t believe your ears. You’d been to the Daytime Emmy Awards as a kid, because of your work on the soap operas, but nothing as extreme as this. Let alone being nominated.

“You’re joking, right?”

“No joke! Why would I be joking, you deserve this! You’ve worked your butt off!” Your agent’s happy voice rang happily through the phone. “I’ll make sure you get your hair and makeup done, and the stylist will be contacting you soon. This is a step towards something big, I can feel it!”

“I can too,” You said, bouncing on the balls of your feet. The call came to an end and you were still feeling the excitement. The rush. You looked back towards the green room, knowing that you were going to be questioned again. But it was all in a place of love, you had to remind yourself. It was all from a place of support.

You considered yourself lucky to have such caring people around you.

You took a deep breath, and then walked back into the room, a smile on your face, ready to get over the past, and look forward to your very exciting future.

Y/n! Actress x Sebastian Stan (+ Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie and Paul Rudd)

A/N : Inspired by the Jimmy Kimmel Live interview during Captain America: Civil War (8years ago)

The lights dim in the studio, and a booming voiceover fills the air. On the screen, a montage explodes – Captain America’s shield clashes with Iron Man’s repulsor blasts, Black Widow flips through the air, and heroes stand divided. The title card blazes: Captain America: Civil War.

Thunderous applause erupts as the lights return to a smiling Jimmy Kimmel. “Welcome back to Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tonight, we have a super-powered group joining us. Give it up for Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, and the lovely Y/n!”

The five actors walk out, waving and soaking in the cheers. Jimmy throws them some playful jabs, then dives into the questions.

“Alright, let’s test your knowledge of each other. Chris has memorized all the songs of which Disney musical?”

“Frozen!” Anthony Mackie blurts out, earning laughs.

“Nope,” Chris smiles. “Anyone?”

Paul leans in, “Aladdin?”

Y/n and Sebastian speak at the same time, “Little Mermaid!”

"Yes" Jimmy confirms. The crowd roars with laughter. Chris throws his arm around Y/n.

“This is the kind of chemistry you see on screen, folks,” Paul teases.

“Well,” Chris grins, “Y/n and I might have belted out a few Little Mermaid duets in our trailers.”

"Interesting. Alright, let's move on. Paul's family name was shortened from what?" Jimmy asked.

Anthony jumps in with a goofy grin, “Rud-rud-evan-rudabar?”

The actors erupt in playful chaos, throwing out silly suggestions. Finally, Paul reveals the answer: “Rudnitsy.”

The questions keep flying. Chris nails Anthony’s debut film, and the crowd goes wild. The tension rises as Jimmy reaches Y/n.

“Alright, this might get interesting. Who is y/n's celebrity crush?”

Y/n hides her face, a playful blush creeping up her cheeks.

“Oooh, this is juicy!” Anthony leans forward.

Paul throws out a guess, “Brad Pitt?”

"Nope, try again" Jimmy says with a playful smirk on his face.

Chris and Anthony exchange knowing smirks.

Sebastian tries his luck, “Johnny Depp?”

Y/n shakes her head, even more flustered.

"Maybe I should just say it for you…" Chris teases.

"Please don't!" Y/n says blushing.

Jimmy, sensing the tension, prodded further. "Come on, Chris, spill the tea!"

Chris Evans & Anthony Mackie replied "Sebastian Stan!"

The crowd gasps, then bursts into excited cheers. Sebastian's cheeks match yours in a vibrant shade of red.

He leans towards you, a playful whisper brushing your ear. "Really?"

You nod sheepishly, a smile tugging at the corner of your lips. "We'll talk about this later," Sebastian murmurs back, a flicker of amusement in his eyes.

"Alright last question, aside from English, what other language does Sebastian speak fluently?

"Romanian!" Y/n replies immediately and the crowd erupts in whistles and applause.

As the show drew to a close, Jimmy unveiled a set of action figures – Captain America, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, and (your superhero name). The audience roared with approval as you held up your miniature self.

"Thank you guys for being here!" Jimmy said, extending a warm hand to all of you.

The cheers continued as you and your fellow Avengers exited the stage, the energy of the night buzzing in your veins.

You had no idea how you could have gotten so lucky, it all just started as a joke.

Audition to play Thor's sister. That was all it said in the page that your best friend send you, thinking of it as a joke you applied for the role.

A few days later you suddenly got an email from THE Marvel Studios, you almost fainted when it appeared in your inbox and before you could utter 'ta-da' you had opened and sped through the email, you read it again and again and again not believing that this was happening.

They were sending you some lines that you had to say, record and send to them since you were one of the last three candidates.

Not long after you send in your little scene and a week later you were flying to Atlanta to start filming.

Now that you are standing in your trailer, nerves racing through your body as you try to stop your hands from shaking, never in a million years did you think that it was possible for you to be in a Marvel Movie, as a main character!

You met Chris a few days ago and he was the sweetest guy you ever met, always making sure that you were comfortable and ready for the scenes. Today was the day that you would start with your first big fight scene and the nerves were getting the better of you.

Sitting alone in your trailer while your leg was bouncing up and down, in just a top and sweatpants since you would change into your costume later as you waited to be called over.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door to which you shouted "come in".

"How are you doing, nervous?" Chris asked with a smile as he walked in and closed the door behind him.

"yeah you can say that, I couldn't even eat with the nerves" you grumble as you flop onto the couch and look at him sideways.

"You have no need to be nervous Hun, you're absolutely perfect and one of the best teen actresses that I've worked with" he said with a soft smile as he poked your side as a joke.

Not expecting it you let out a soft giggle which both of you heard and you looked up at him with wide eyes.

Chris was grinning like the cheshire cat as he looked down at you and quickly sat down on your thighs and traced your ribs.

"Is little Y/N ticklish? That's adorable" he cooed while ghost tickling your bare stomach.

"Don't you darEHEHEH" you try to protest but fall into a giggle fit as he squeezed your sides.

"Oh I do dare, how else would I hear that cute little laugh of yours my lady" He said in his Thor voice as he continued to attack you.

"My laugh is not cuTehHIHIHI, CHRISHAHAHHA" you scream laughed as you trashed around.

"Yes Y/N" Hemsworth said innocently as he spidered over you tummy.

"STOPHAHHAA ITHIHIHI"!!!

"No not else you tell me what's wrong"

"NEVERHAHAHAHAHGAGA"

"Then I guess I'll just have to continue" he sighed as if it hurt him and blew a raspberry in your neck.

You continued to stay resilient until he moved from your tummy to your feet.

"OkAY OKAY OKAY I'll tell youhihihihi" you say still breathless from the giggles.

"I'm listening"

"It's just that- argh I'm nervous that I'm going to screw up everything and that they don't want me to act anymore and that I'm too shy that they don't want to talk to me anymore" you sighed as you sat up.

"Oh darling, they would never. Kevin feige loves you and every crew member can't stop talking about how polite you are to them, there's nothing wrong with being a bit shy, Even Downey was impressed with your acting and that's saying something" Chris said with a smile as he pulled sat next to you and pulled you into his side, with his arm over your shoulder and rubbing comforting circles over your arm "And I think you're the best young actress that I've worked with, next to my daughter of course"

I tried to find something to say but couldn't so you just settled for curling up next to him, filming could wait for a few minutes. And even though you didn't say anything, Chris knew perfectly well what you wanted to say.
