In other news, while looking at the blogs of modders I’m discovering there’s a lot of hate directed at some modders?  Purportedly the Bi/Etc modders, but digging deeper there’s a lot directed at mods that change gameplay, especially if it makes the game ‘easier/cheats’, even when it’s actually just fixing a bug.  Even cosmetic mods?

What the hell?!

Theoretically, I can see how the Bi-Dorian mod could make people uncomfortable.  It’s part of his storyline that Dorian’s suffered a lot because of his preference for men in bed, in very unfortunate real parallels to reality.  (One could argue that “preference for men” does mean bisexual, just more into men than women, but that’s splitting hairs.)

On the other hand, my understanding is originally Cassandra was meant to be either bisexual or strictly lesbian, and that was changed because blah-blah-blah-rationalizations.

And Solas being able to be romance by any Inquisitor actually can work as the whole point is that you make him see you as an actual PERSON first, then he falls in love. (WTF Solas you asshole)

I go back and forth on the whole is DA2 everyone can be romance by everyone vs DAO/DAI no strict preferences.  But none of these mods are hiding what they do--they open up the romancing options for characters in the game.  This truly is a situation of “If you don’t like it, don’t use it”.

You want to have a rational discussion about why you think certain choices are squicky/creepy/problematic/bad story decisions/whatev, fine.  Great!  That’s what we need.

Sending a bunch of toxic shit mail at modders because you don’t like what they’ve done is not only infantile, it’s exactly the wrong way to change the real life situations that lead you to feel uncomfortable about whatever romance mod you dislike.

And funny, I never saw this garbage about mods for DAO.  Is it just that Inqusition is more popular, widespread?  Is there something about the characters or gameplay of the romance that makes people more invested?  Or is Origins jus too old? ~shrugs~

As for any other mods you have a problem with, you’re not playing with them, shut up and shove off!

ok last ooc post for the night i swear

but this is for all ya @daimodder(s) out there:  I'm having so much trouble finding .daimod files on the Nexus, especially for my QF inquisitor. If someone could explain how to use .rar or .7z mods that would be fantastic. OOOOORR, because at this point I am willing to pay someone to make mods for my own personal use, does anyone do commissions? 

Mods I would like ASAP: Hair mod. I have a few different styles in mind, but would be satisfied with pretty much anything with a longish length. Also, preferably for a hornless qunari... Horn mod. I don't know if this is possible but I have a very specific idea of what my inquisitor's horns look like and if someone could bring it to life I'd be forever grateful.  Complexion mod. I have a decent one right now but the freckles are a bit too brown for my liking (they don't go well with her grey skintone) Eyebrow mod. I just can’t find one that works on her face.

Anyone here experienced with mesh modding in DAI?

What sorts of things do I need to be looking out for in my 3ds Max file to make sure it works in-game? Naming? Vertex numbers? Etc? I want to start troubleshooting now v. later.

I just wanna take a moment to thank all of the people who 1. Created and Updated the Mod Manager for DAI you guys are amazing keep doing what you’re doing because no one can do what you do. and 2. All the modders out there who are giving us such great mods and expecting nothing but enjoyment at finding out how much we love their mods and cant live without them for if we did not have their mods lets face it our quizzies would be UGLY lol. But I really do want to thank all of you if I could get all of you together in a room I would give you all cake and I don’t mean like a store bought cake I mean like a 3 tier cake with like a Vanilla raspberry bottom, a double chocolate mid, and a White chocolate mint top. We love you guys and don’t know what we would do without you guys. You rock!

Uhm hello I was thinking in starting modding myself, specially hair mods (I have experience with 3d max and milkshake) what would it be the "starter mod pack"? I mean start with wich programs, where to get the models adn some nice tutorials etc.

Welcome to the modding community! This blog is mostly intended for those who use the mods, but the Mod Makers can point you in a hopefully useful direction for learning how to mod for DAI.

For Hair mods in particular, this Mod Maker would start with the Hair Mod Tutorial put together by adella9​ and thetrollingchaos​ on the DAI Tools Forum.

For modding in general, the best place the Mod Makers can recommend to start would be the DAI Tools forum. Quite a few modders check those forums on a regular to semi-regular basis, and there are many cool features, including a Current Tutorials section which is geared towards both modders and mod users alike. It is highly recommended you head over there, introduce yourself, and get familiar with how the forums are set up. There is a lot of information to be found there!

Another resource is the DAI Modding and Fan Creations group on the BSN (Bioware Social Network). In particular, the DAI Tools group discussion can be a treasure trove of information if you have to patience to work your way through it, since it tracked the development of how to mod DAI. 

Both resources have a lot of information, and there is a lot of information to take in. But those are the two best recommendations the Mod Makers can make about learning how to mod for DAI.
