hideaki anno x odio The Daicon Pages (A tribute to the early work of Hideaki Anno, and Studio Gainax) c o l o r f u l  Note* Sketches made my Anno in the early 1980′s. Around the time of the DaiconIV animation short - the time he was working on (SDF) Macross: Do you Remember Love. You can see the first hints of Gunbuster here as well. I wanted to do these to pay tribute to the roots of this industry defining artist and one of my heroes and probably my biggest influence creatively. As well the studio that changed the face of the industry forever. These are The Daicon pages, I do hope you enjoy. Thank you.

Anno x Odio The Daicon Pages c o l o r f u l  Daicon v: Gainax Spirit retrospective. Artist note* I do not think one can think of Studio Gainax, and not think of the name Hideaki Anno even though he may not be as recognizable in the west as some of his contemporaries it is hard to find a more influential living director in Japan. Rivaling even that of Myazaki Anno's one time mentor. In this set of color works I wanted to go back to his early beginnings at Daicon studios. I feel a lot of people outside the more dedicated otaku camps are unaware of how this all started with the Daicon III and Daicon IV opening animations. As well how that time period was fundamental in Anno, and his co creators in finding their creative voices. These guys did not set out to change an industry. They were fans of media. They really loved animation they really loved movies, and the early Daicon works are a testament to that. I just hope that I am able to give these works a fitting tribute. It is the least I can do for someone I regard as a real hero in my life. Both creative and otherwise. *another Note named the girl in the final piece kiki after my wife who is also very smol.
