Tuesday
I've been walking between 3-4k almost every day, sometimes twice a day, with my dad! :) It's been really fun and stress-free.
This morning walked about 3k and I'm going to do about an hour of dance before lunch. Finally really beginning to understand the importance of 'slow and steady'.
Kayla Itsines BBG Review
I finished the full 12 week BBG last week and it's been an incredible journey! In fact more of an incredible way to begin a journey... ;-)
Basically the BBG is a series of circuit intervals (3 per week) plus LISS (low intensity steady state intervals) like walking and some short HIIT workouts. What I love is that Kayla's actual workouts kick butt, don't require that much equipment and are relatively short. I wish there were more circuits that don't require any equipment, though, as a bench really becomes necessary (and dumbbells, and a medicine ball is helpful too). If I had the option to exercise in a fully equipped gym that is in my building I would do that, but I just don't want to walk 10 min in the cold to a crowded gym...but maybe that's just me. :p
In terms of physical transformation I am a lot stronger now. I can do multiple push-ups in a row and my stamina is better and I'm also more filled with energy (I have been eating HCLFV, though, not eating in accordance with her additional nutrition guide). I've lost some weight (I don't weigh myself so not sure how much -- but a noticeable amount) and gained some muscle. :)
Right now I am repeating the 12 week guide. Kayla also has a part 2 but it includes more gym equipment and is more challenging, from what I've gathered from internet searches, so I will save that for the future -- I know I will continue to benefit from repeating the 12 week guide because I modified a LOT of the exercises the first go-round and also took many little rests because I believe in listening to my body. ;-)
I would do the circuits in my apartment and blast my own music, which is nice -- so I could choose the mood that I wanted to conjure up while exercising. (I used to do Blogilates workouts quite religiously and although I still like them I like being able to choose my own music and it is a bit much to have the same instructor day in and day out talking at me...)
If you guys have any questions please feel free to ask me. I don't really know what else to write other than to state that I really ENJOYED the guide the first time around and I'm doing it again.
September 20, 2014 - BBG!
It's been SO long since posting a Daily WO update but I haven't been slacking on the actual workouts!
I started Kayla Itsines' BBG program on August 25, 2014 and have been going at it for 4 weeks so far. I love it! I've been feeling pretty great, overeating much less (also due to stopping restricting carbs!), and having nice, steady energy & sleep patterns (in general). :-)
Today I did a 25 minute walk on the treadmill. Totally low-key. Wouldn't even call it a powerwalk (setting between 3-3.5). I've been doing Kayla's 3-day circuits faithfully but have been pretty slack on the LISS (low intensity steady state cardio). So that was my LISS for the day... pretty pathetic but also I DID IT, which is more than I can say for many of the days when I was supposed to be doing LISS. THAT SAID, the circuits have been AMAZING. Really challenging but really fun and I do feel myself getting stronger!
I'll post more updates on the BBG as I go and a full review when I'm further into the program. :-)
