Otherwordly personifications of virtues, sins, and concepts. Daimona are colloquially referred to as shades and exist solely in the Otherworld. Unlike the spirits bound into creation by elves, eladrins, and drow to form a revenant, a daimona is forged independently from a wisp that takes on the quality of significance when encountered. Not only are places of importance reflected in the Otherworld, but the realm of the inbetween is also sensitive to immense thoughts and desires, as reflected in the appearance of shades.
A daimona may be humanoid in appearance, it may be monstrous, or it may appear beautiful, but it cannot cross into a realm unless summoned, they are able to peer into them and influence them to some degree, but no further. A shade’s personality will be two-dimensional, they are wholly personified by whatever thought or concept brought them into existence and will respond by the name of whatever idea gave them sentience: love, desire, compassion, valour, etc. These creatures largely wander the Otherworld, sometimes appearing as sentinels with a fierce loyalty to a specific area, and other times in the form of a temptation. Daimona of pure thought can be corrupted from their original purpose, and once defiled cannot be cleansed. As an example a shade of wisdom can be visited for knowledge, however if frequented too often it can take on the form of the visitor and change to a creature of gluttony, desire, or pride. These concepts are inherently destructive.
Spirits of love, compassion, loyalty, and justice are rare, whereas daimona of pride, lust, or envy are much more commonplace. There was once a mortal who studied the Otherworld who stumbled upon the rarest shade of all, one of love. It took the form of a single rose growing brilliantly in a secluded section of the Otherworld. The second time he visited it the form had changed into that of a woman, beautiful beyond comprehension - just as he’d imagined. The third time he visited the daimona had transformed, desire was their name, and they consumed the scholar entirely - the body discovered amongst the mortals' final journal.
Strong emotions will corrupt them.
