#3583 - Olearia axillaris - Coastal Daisy-Bush
First described in 1836 as Eurybia axillaris by Augustin Pyramus de Candolle, in 1865 as Aster axillaris by Ferdinand von Mueller and in 1867 as Olearia axillaris George Bentham. Olearia itself was named in in 1802 by German botanist Conrad Moench, after fellow German botanist Johann Gottfried Olearius, but in 2020 the genus got split up over ten new genera, based on genetic evidence.
The specific epithet (axillaris) means "axillary", referring to the flower position.
There are about 180 species in the genus. At least 130 of them are endemic to Australia.
Found in coastal heath and scrub around much of southern Australia.
