(This one’s long-ish but it’s probably the craziest thing that’s ever happened to me lmao)

The summer after I graduated college, the man who created one of my favorite games in existence (Daisuke Ishiwatari!! He made Guilty Gear!!) was coming to Anime Expo in LA, but I live literally on the other side of the country, so I begged my parents to let me fly out there with one of my friends as a graduation present and by some miracle they let me

When we were planning our trip, me and my friend agreed that I would be responsible for organizing the flight and she’d be responsible for organizing the hotel, and she was excited about a hotel she found that was close enough to the convention to walk there, and it was only like $70 per night?? So of course we were like YEAA BOII 

The hotel itself was pretty shabby, there was no AC (and it was in the middle of summer in LA for the lord’s sake) and there were communal bathrooms like in a dorm, but we didn’t really care because A. it was cheap so we had more money to spend at the convention, and B. we were basically only gonna be sleeping there, so it’s not like we were spending much time there anyway

Anyway the convention was AWESOME and we had a really fun time, but a few months later I heard about the case of Elisa Lam, who was found dead in a water tank…AT THE SAME HOTEL WE STAYED AT

When we stayed there it was called the Stay on Main, but it used to be called the Cecil Hotel, and not only was that girl found dead there two years before we stayed there, but Richard Ramirez also apparently killed a lot of people in a room 2 floors up from where we were, and it’s also most likely haunted as heck, and its history is so dark that it’s the hotel that American Horror Story based that Hotel season off of

And we had no idea until months later because all we cared about was anime!! We were too blinded by our need for Dat Merchandise to actually read any reviews or anything before we went lmao that was wild
