Summary: Two years ago, Draco and Harry had a whirlwind secret romance that ended in heart-break. Since then Draco's written a best-selling novel based on their relationship, but with one key difference—the characters get a happily ever after. Now Harry and Draco are reunited for the first time since their break-up, but can they rewrite their own ending?
Oddly specific rec for my mood: Drarry break up fics I spent my Thursday night reading while drinking weak rosé.
(includes some fics I’ve had in recs before)
Hi anon. ♡
..
Happy ending:
If stars died of old age by LiviKate
His mother had had six months after his father had died. But it was expected; they had prepared and were already rather distanced. Draco hadn’t been ready, and Merlin, he had been so in love. He knew he was counting down in weeks, not months.
Maybe Just A Midnight Rendezvous by Writcraft
Harry's back in London and he's determined to show Draco how things have changed.
Forever by MotherBooker
It’s been 3 months since Harry last saw Draco and 3 months since they broke their bond.
Harry feels like he’s lost a piece of himself, and it takes a bit of help from a determined child to get that piece back.
Cassiopeia Lily Malfoy by GallaPlacidia
In eighth year, Harry had a toxic fling with Draco Malfoy. Ten years later, a little girl shows up, begging for Harry's help. Could the two be connected? And did Harry misunderstand what Draco was trying to tell him, the last time they spoke?
Feat. angry 8th year Harry being truly horrible to Draco, Draco writing a lot of letters he never sends Harry, and the most Gryffindor-Slytherin hybrid ten-year-old you've ever seen.
..
Happy ending (but I still want to punch someone):
Return by bafflinghaze
For a while, Draco had Harry. In a sense: they were flatmates, and sometimes they shared a bed.
But then, Harry found Someone, and Draco moved out, and they drifted apart. Draco tried dating, he did, but he wanted too much, it just never worked out.
In the end, there was only one person, romantically, for Draco. But Draco didn’t think Harry felt the same way in return.
Until, one day, Harry returned.

Unhappy ending (still somehow satisfying though).
Better Left Dead by calrissian18
A love story and a half.
Caring for plants and seeing them grow can be immensely gratifying and therapeutic. Below are my Top 5 Favorite stories:
“To Believe in Tomorrow” (T, 3k) by seapigeon
Bucky's mornings at the community garden get a little more interesting when the new guy shows up.
+ Shrunkyclunks. Bucky gets a crush and helps Steve with his vegetables
-☆-
“Into the Sky” (T, 3k) by Ellessey
"Maybe they were just duds," Steve says, his thumb moving gently over Bucky's hand. "We can get some more."
They were magic beans, that's what the package called them. They were supposed to sprout within a week. They were intended for ages five to ninety-five.
Maybe Bucky's just too goddamn old.
--
Bucky has precious little patience with himself (and even less for his horticultural endeavors), but Steve has more than enough to go around.
+ Post CW. Bucky grows a bean plant. A soft story about love

"A Seed Once Sown Never Dies” (T, 2k) by attackofthezee (noxlunate)
“Do you need backup?”
“No, I need my aunt’s superhero war boyfriend to stop calling me in the middle of missions.” Sharon says, but it’s a little more fond than when Nat says similar things so Steve thinks he can get away with it. “I don’t know what to tell you Steve. Get a pet? Wait, no, don’t get a pet. God no, please don’t do that. Get a plant. A couple plants.”
“A plant?” Steve says, feeling strangely confused by the suggestion.
“Yeah, it’ll be good for you. Start a garden or something. Just, do anything that isn’t calling me at 3 in the goddamn morning while I’m on an op. Call me at like 11 on a Sunday when it’s my day off. That’s a normal time to call Steve. If you catch me in a good mood we can even do brunch.”
Aka Steve Rogers starts a garden and it goes better than anyone expected.
+ Post WS. Bucky returns, secretly waters Steve’s plants, and then helps Steve at the farmers market.

“All of Your Love is Sunlight” (E, 22k) by canistakahari and WarlockInTraining
Sometimes the path to happiness involves bad timing turned good, a butt plant, and a little everyday magic. For Steve and Bucky, it's all that and more.
+ Shrunkyclunks. Steve breaks a door, buys a succulent, and gets a date

“It’s Fertilizer” (G, 1k) by daisymondays
“It’s fertilizer,” Steve says, far too primly for someone whose house smells like shit.
“That’s just a fancy word for shit.”
“No, it’s the correct word for plant nutrients.”
It’s becoming more and more evident that Steve is not going to admit that his house does in fact smell like shit, and he’s got that stubborn set to his jaw that tells Sam exactly who is behind the cause of the smell. Barnes.
+ Post WS. People are willing to go to great lengths to make Bucky happy

Ah, collegiate life...frat parties, cramming for exams, and making new friends. Below are my Top 5 Favorite stories:
“What A Wonderful World This Would Be” (E, 59k) by mambo
Steve Rogers isn't about to let some frat boy jerk like Bucky Barnes show him up, even if it means having to kick Brock Rumlow in the balls.
+ Part 1 is partnering up in a group project and becoming friends. Mutual pining, figure drawing, going home for thanksgiving. The 15 part series spans four years and into adulthood

“should you choose to accept” (T, 5k) by layersofsilence
“Okay,” Tony says. “Okay, okay. This is fine. This is a mission, should you choose to accept, I accept, let’s do this.”
“You’re drunk,” Steve says muzzily, though not without an element of hypocrisy because he too is very drunk. “What’re we doin?” Then his meandering thoughts go right back to Bucky, and he sighs again. “He’s just so –” he says on yet another exhale, and makes a totally incomprehensible hand movement, and feels slightly like he might cry with trying to find a word that properly describes his new roommate.
“Yes,” Tony says. “That. We’re going to calculate your chances that he wants to bone you, and then we’re going to calculate how it’s going to be done. For science!” he tries to yell, and falls off his chair.
+ You shouldn’t do math if you’re drunk. Tony helps Steve calculate a 0.09% chance that Bucky reciprocates Steve’s crush

“Found: One Bicycle” (T, 8k) by daisymondays
Bucky Barnes posted in Overheard at Middlebury College:
Hello fellow students! Basically in my drunken stupor last night I came across a bicycle. Being rather intoxicated and far from home I decided the logical thing to do was ride it back. I can assure you all that both me and the bike survived this adventure and are in perfect condition!! I now however have no use for for said vehicle and have realised that someone is probably pretty upset about having lost it. Anyway, if you can correctly identify the bike’s make and colour, slide into my DMs and I promise to return it to you!! Thanks for the ride xoxo
+ Steve is prickly and Bucky (and his football bros) are well-meaning. Bake sales and naked posing for art
-☆-
“Like Fritos I’m Trying to Lay” (T, 4k) by ellevaire
Bucky drops the packet of fruit snacks by SGR's laptop, watching the doorway to make sure he isn’t coming back. He fishes an only slightly squashed granola bar out of his bag and sets it next to the fruit snacks and feels a little bit like a super spy pulling off a successful mission and reestablishes cover by shoving his headphones back on and schooling his face into a bored expression.
Bucky Barnes is a complete dork who shares a library table with the most beautiful guy in the world. He also leaves him snacks. Like Secret Santa, but with Twizzlers.
+ Bucky thinks the cute guy at the library looks tired and hungry. They start exchanging notes and the entire thing is adorable
-☆-
“That Boy Is a Problem” (E, 10k) by 2bestfriends
In which a twinky little goth punk named Bucky puts a leash around Steve's dick and he's really into it.
(The leash is a metaphor. For now.)
+ Bucky wears latex leggings and Steve is a Very Good Boy. Bathroom blowjobs and bedroom sex x2
