"Rarepair" not in the sense that it's an inobvious pairing, but in the sense that it's the primary ship for a piece of media that nobody's fucking heard of.

Hey rarepair shippers, I'm about to change your lives.

The AO3 Primary Ship Search add-on for Firefox (it's called AO3 First Tag Search for Chrome) adds this little checkbox to the AO3 advanced search page

And if you check the box, the search only returns fics where the pairing you entered is the first one tagged. This is better than the otp:true operator imo because it will show fics with secondary/background pairings too as long as your preferred ship is the main one.

You can even use the add-on in Firefox or Kiwi browser on Android mobile.

People who are on AO3, how many works does a ship has to have for it to no longer be considered a "rare pair" in your opinion?

If the pairing has more than 20 works, it's not a rare pair

If the pairing has more than 50 works, it's not a rare pair

If the pairing has more than 100 works, it's not a rare pair

If the pairing has more than 200 works, it's not a rare pair

If the pairing has more than 500 works, it's not a rare pair

If the pairing has more than 1,000 works, it's not a rare pair

If the pairing has more than 2,000 works, it's not a rare pair

If the pairing has more than 3,000 works, it's not a rare pair

If the pairing has more than 5,000 works, it's not a rare pair

If the pairing has more than 10,000 works, it's not a rare pair

If the pairing has more than 20,000 works, it's not a rare pair

Do you ever have those rarepair fics that you are so proud of but only a handful of people are ever likely to read? And it makes you sad to think it's never going to be well-read.

Except maybe there's well-read (in quantity of readers) and well-read, in how much those readers adore it, beloved and reread by a precious few it is precious to, too. Maybe it doesn't need so many to appreciate it when those that do appreciate it so intensely.
