“oh no--don’t even think about it.” paisley groans at the sight of them heading for the curtains the second she wakes up. “you’re going to regret even existing for the rest of the day if you do that--not yet, dallas, my head hurts like a bitch.” the doctor pulls the covers and hides under it. “what time is it anyway--and how are you up on your feet? get back in here with me, dal." she says, peeking her head out and poking an eye open the doctor found herself at the vanilla unicorn last night and bumped into dallas, and in a quick blur they ended up at her place, in her bed, and now paisley has woken with a stupid smile on her face, staring the dancer.
Carter saw the police enter the fairgrounds from across the way. His eyes turned quickly from them to where Alara was stationed. He knew this was it.
Before he knew it, he was running to her. Grabbing her by the shoulders and placing a hard and sloppy kiss on her lips. “Run.” He whispered into her ear as he took off in a different direction from her. His hand flying to his back where a blade laid tucked into his back pocket.
He knew that he had to keep them away from her. Protect her.
Everything around him was a blur. He couldn’t tell who was in front of him, his vision going red. This wasn’t what Carter wanted, none of this had turned out the way he had hoped.
He still didn’t end up with the girl.
By the time the police caught up to him, he had already left Viktor and Harrison laying in his path. He stood there with the blade in hand, two police officers gunning him down.
“Drop the knife.”
Carter did as he was told, throwing the blade on the ground towards their feet. His eyes frantically moving around the grounds. Trying to spot Alara anywhere.
Then he was off again. His feet hit hard against the ground as he desperately tried to make it back to her. If he could just get back to her, they could get out of this. Get out of there forever.
“ALARA!”
She was all that mattered. She was the only thing that had ever mattered. Everything he had done, he did for her. He moved the bodies, he covered up the crimes, he loved her unconditionally.
His mind travels back as he runs. Back to Dallas, her laughter echoing through his head.
“Get rid of her.” Alara had said to him.
For the first time since his breakup with Alara, his heart had felt heavy.
He remembers the feeling of his fingers around her neck, the way the life inside her kept fighting for the power to stay there.
Carter knew she wasn’t dead when he left her there. And for that he was punished. He never had the power here, he was never in charge.
Kiyan. Two brothers. Bitter is the war between them.
His blood ran cold at the first threat against him.
Nothing could happen to Kiyan.
Their relationship had been difficult since the day the younger boy came to the home. Carter resented the way their parents loved him. Resented all of them so much that he had convinced himself that Kiyan would never love him either, he was never going to be on Carters side. So, Carter shut him out forever.
His first mistake with Alara and Nadia was that he showed he still cared. That’s when the arrests happened and Carter knew that the other two of their group had been behind it.
He couldn’t fuck up again. The cost would not only be his own life, but his brothers too.
THUD.
He was so close. He could see Alara being taken by other cop as he was tackled to the down. He could almost reach out and touch her if they didn’t have his hands behind his back.
“ALARA!”
His screams for her were useless. She was no longer paying attention to anything he had to say.
Carter was faced with the reality he had put himself in. He was going to jail, but he was going for love. He spit out the grass that had landed in his mouth from the tackle to the ground. Turning his face to spit in the direction of the arresting officer. A smile began to creep onto his lips.
This wasn’t over, far from it.
“My dad is going to be so pissed.” He laughs, the smile not leaving his face as he keeps his eyes locked on where Alara was.
"I can't believe I'm bored at a carnival." Carter complained, looking over at his best friend. "That feels like a crime." He tossed a piece of cotton candy that he had stolen into his mouth. Offering some up to Dallas as he continued to speak. "Tell me some drama, I'm dying over here."
This was not the way Adriana saw her day going. Standing there behind a huge door with cuffs around her wrists as she waits to be let back into the visiting room where she could see Dallas sitting on the other side. "Dallas." She breathes out when the door finally opens and she escorted into the room. "Thank God you are here. I really need you to listen to me because none of this is what it seems like."
