Do you think the progression of who Casey and Derek date is symbolic to them evening out their personalities. Like sally is Casey version girlfriend for Derek and Truman is a Derek version boyfriend for Casey? Casey trying to have fun and living in the moment like Derek by dating Truman. Derek being courteous and mindful like Casey by dating Sally?

Okay it’s 4am 5am so my brain feels like this is an extremely complex question.

This made me think of this post, which depicts Casey and Derek’s dating parallels. I don’t entirely agree with it, but it’s a meme 🤷‍♀️, and kind of shows your point.

I think there is some real basis on the show to believe that. Truman definitely feels to me like a throwaway from the showrunners to distract the audience from Dasey, because he is basically a Derek clone. It’s hard for me to feel that way about Sally, but in my opinion she is a perfect balance of both Casey and Derek’s personalities (which is why I believe in the ot3 🥰), so she has very similar qualities to Casey.

All in all, there is definitely growth in both of them that I think was spurred from knowing each other. I do think that Casey showed her wild side more and Derek his soft, caring side. So yeah, I think we can see their relationships as symbolic of that!
