for now I will simply keep hoping that Doumeki ultimately does won't use the egg because of how much he cares (or alternatively it was not ever meant for him and that was just what everyone thought). There are still options (I hope. I do not like that egg)

I just hate that it is even "for Doumeki to decide" when/if the egg should be used on Watanuki. I cannot picture a situation in which Doumeki violates Watanuki like this. The whole plot of TRC starts when Sakura is stripped of her self by a forceful memory loss and she is deeply traumatized by it till the very end. I simply do not believe that overly cautious Doumeki (who leaves most relationship decisions to Watanuki) can ever do that

Even in the fic I mentioned I had to skip a couple of generations in order to make the egg scenario somehow believable
