Yesterday was Chick-Fil-A (CFA from now on in this post) appreciation day. I assume people appreciate their Spicy Chicken Sandwiches. They are tasty!
But let's be real, for many yesterday was more than that.
I haven't said much here, as I do think Cathy had/has the right to say what he wants. I'm all for Freedom of Speech.
But I DO take issue with his hypocrisy.
Please don't cry Freedom of Religion and than seek to suppress those that do not bow down to your religious beliefs. That doesn't fly.
BUT, the real issue for me is this…Ok, I have a few:
CFA is a business. The individuals that make up said business can have any political viewpoint they like. They can give their money to whom they want, march in whatever parade they deem worthy…but if a business (or in this case the mouthpiece) for the business puts his political/religious views out there, be prepared for people to NOT agree and to take their money elsewhere.
Yes, CFA is a franchise business, which means local owners, members of our own community might be hurt, but that's the nature of the beast.
I won't lie, I don't know the politics of every business I frequent, but I prefer that. YOU, meaning the business, are providing me a service. I am paying for that service…end of relationship. But when you say this is what WE believe (meaning you are speaking of the company) that's a different take.
Now, you have put your company's politics at the forefront, and if I take a look and see that you are giving money to organizations that seek to suppress the rights of an entire segment of the populations-especially when you claim to do so in the name of religion…well, I just might take my money elsewhere.
I don't have friends in high places. I don't know Congressmen, and politicians, but I do have the right to speak with my pocketbook. And it might only be a few dollars of my money going to these organizations, but in my book that's few dollars too many.
I told Roy that I wouldn't stop him if he wanted to go. I simply won't be eating with him. It's how I feel, and it's my right to do so.
I've heard people complain…"But, if we boycott one business because we don't like their beliefs, no one would get anything done!"
REALLY? You really think there aren't other companies, in the same busines as CFA (McDonald's comes to mind) that have politics more in line with my own? Come on…
ON the other hand, it's a double edged sword, because it's a business…I don't need to know your politics, especially if you want my money.
But since I know CFA's stance, I'll choose to exercise my right to NOT eat there. BUT that doesn't mean I expect you to follow suit. You do what you think is right, I'll do the same. Simple as that.
And that's all I have to say about this.
