Dan Jolin’s “Prisoners Les Miserablers” is a short but well-designed review with a perfunctory political undercurrent. It’s formatted quite well into three distinct sections: plot, review, and verdict.

The first sentence is clunky, and even though his writing style is forceful at times, Jolin seems to have a little trouble making his words flow well throughout the review.

The “review” part is still mostly plot rundown, although it shapes up later and provides a few interesting insights to the reader.

Jolin takes on a particular thematic perspective in regards to his opinion of the Prisoners, actively engaging in what he views as the director’s portrait of a War-on-Terror America. Some readers will appreciate his focus, while others may question how he seems to just squat in it, seemingly unmindful of other thematic potential at play.

The reader enters a bleak,  gray sky with Jolin’s review, draped in a thin layer of supporting evidence that nonetheless manages to pull-out a few good reasons to watch or not watch Prisoners.

The font is small and there are a couple of obvious grammar mistakes. Overall, cogency is lacking with this film review, but it’s solid enough to rise out of the ashes of terrible reviews.
