Next two covers of issues #4 and #5 of All Hail the Pumpkin King! ...Nooot too entirely sure what the hell's going on here, tbh. I assume Jack comes up with some flying costume/mechanism and Oogie has something to do with the uhhhh. giant Jack-o-'lantern?

Issue 4 releases on October 14th, issue 5 releases November 11th!

Getting a lot of James and the Giant Peach vibes...fitting to tie these Henry Selick movies together!

It had a decent setup, but Junketsu Drop it is not.

306. Boyfriend, Sometimes Girlfriend, Vol. 3 - licensed - Hodoka meets Chihaya's former fiancé and gets a crash course in beauty along with a lecture about the family's curse. Afterwards, he meets Chihaya's brother, who wants to end the curse. A rushed finale to a comedy that tried to drama.

Went walking around for my lunch break as I do every Sunday, and I found Masters of the Universe: Legends of Eternia Issue 1 at Newbury Comics, the one I did get this past Monday. It's an manga style comic miniseries.

While I knew TP had wide german operations and I fact still exist as a regular publisher there today, I just discovered that Sgt. Frog was actually published by them in Germany. Lasting 16 Volumes from 2004-2011

These covers use the American Logo (As TokyoPop owned that one) but the Original Japanese Tankoban art instead of the edgier 2D stuff

As of now I do not have any German scans

Unlike in america, TokyoPop Germany still seems to own their version of Sgt. Frog. As the first 10 volumes were added to Kindle in 2019

There's actually alot of weird incidental stuff here. (FEB2007 🇯🇵/JAN2008 🇺🇲)

Starting with this issue, the Japanese Scans online are of a "special edition" print version. I've also found covers of 9 & 12 online.

I swear there used to be one for 13 online but I can't find it. Only 16

I don't actually know what's "SPECIAL" about these editions beyond the covers using 2D Art instead if 3D art. I kinda prefer the 3D. As did the Spanish licensors

Skipping 2 Chapters, ENCOUNTER 112!! (for anyone who forgot, TokyoPop called Chapters "encounters" in Sgt. Frog).

On Page 76/72, (US/JP, Publishers number differently for some reason) The phrase of a "SS-Rank Jump" is Changed to Super Mario. Since S as a rating is from the Japanese School grading system, which would be unfamiliar to the average american unless they were intesne GAMER (tm) who plays HARDCORE SHIT like King of Fighters or Sonic Rush!!

kinda weird seeing a mario reference since Yoshizaki usually sticks to SEGA, Nintendo, & PlayStation but as of 2008, Natsumi's been shown to own both a Nintendo GameCube and a Super Famicom and am early Chapter referenced Pikmin. So not a bad change really

BUT WE'RE NOT DONE WITH THIS CHAPTER YET!! A couple pages later at page 83 (US), Fuyuki's report is missing the Keroro Gunso logo seen in Japanese. Why didn't they replace it? TP literally has a Sgt. Frog Logo. They kept the other Keroro stickers, just not the logo

The crop is also so severe that it doesn't even look like a book within a book anymore. Now...

The penalized page's final panel with Garuru talking about Giroro & Natsumi has all the text in the wrong spots in English. Thanks TP. YA FUCKED UP!!

I feel like the final art of Natsumi is reused... but I can't find it. Maybe I'm confusing it?

Very Next Chapter, The VERY START of Encounter 16!!! This one is actually more about the localization decisions of Volume 1 affecting us now!

Natsumi calls Keroro Stupid Frog as usual, bit this time he gets SUPER defensive and upset about it instead of just comedically taking it. What!? There is a reason for this though. The usual word for Stupid that Natsumi refers to Keroro as is "Boke" (ボケ) meaning stupid or clueless. Typically used in Lighthearted Manzai Comedy as most of us probably know. However THIS TIME, She refers to him as "Kudaranai" (くだらない).

While this still means STUPID as TP translated it as, it also means Worthless, Trivial, or Insignificant. Far harsher than simply clueless. Hence him taking it as a personal attack and getting VENGANCE

Finally, Encounter 117. The Final one of the Volume

Fuyuki's writing a document on The Prophecies of Nostradamus (very important to this chapter) BUT instead of translating all the text on screen, TokyoPop removed the text and simply translated like the title. Formatted like a PowerPoint instead of a Word Document.
