Thank you, Dan. I needed that.
My fear of being unoriginal has held me back more than once. It makes me less likely to get someone a gift, raise my hand in class, or write a blog post. I tend to think I have nothing to contribute to the world, because someone else has already done or can more effectively do anything I might try. I am especially terrified by this thought in light of my chosen career: scientific research. My job will be innovation. And I'm not sure I can do it.
In a few weeks, I have to submit a proposal for my honors thesis, which will be my first foray into the world of scientific originality. My first attempt at being first. Compounded firsts. First squared.
Yes, I am very afraid.
But sometimes people come along and encourage me--friends, older students, professors, youtubers. They tell me everyone has been afraid and success is not letting the fear stop you. The first time is practice. Life is a series of rough drafts. Keep growing. Keep improving. Keep tweaking. Be the best you can be. Your greatest rival is yourself.
So I'm going to keep competing and working and learning. I will probably never be first, but I WILL be better.

Crazier, I still think information retention is a problem so I will repeat my experiment. Bottom of history list, 40 videos down, one week ago. Let's recall.
And whaddaya know, another Dan Rezler video! So the gist is Texas can't secede from America because they already covered that but they can at any time (if 2/3rds the population approves (?)) split into five states, so we'd have to add 8 senate seats and it'll be unbalancing because republican and such.

Hooray! I got the main information. Well, he said nothing about majority vote and I forgot the petition to secede that started the video, but still. Much better.
Strange thing is, I don't feel like I'm missing anything from the other half of subscribers I cut. Ignorance is bliss?
The reason I cut half, by the way, is that I felt like I was consuming too much and not leaving room for creating. And I've certainly got more time to explore other things, but have't created yet. I should remedy that.
