Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder sexually harassed a team employee and oversaw team executives who deliberately withheld millions of dollars in revenue from other clubs, and he has agreed to pay a $60 million fine, the league announced Thursday. The NFL released a 23-page report detailing the findings of an independent investigation into Snyder’s conduct just minutes after its owners unanimously approved the sale of the Commanders to Josh Harris for a record $6.05 billion. The fine represents 1% of the sale price; Snyder bought the team, then known as the Redskins, for $800 million. The investigation was led by former Securities and Exchange Commission chair Mary Jo White and conducted by her law firm, Debevoise & Plimpton. The league had pledged to make the findings of the probe public. Investigators concluded that Washington withheld $11 million in revenue that should have been shared with other teams, an amount the report suggests may have been far greater. White’s firm was unable to reach a conclusion about tens of millions of additional dollars that may have been withheld in part because Snyder and the team did not cooperate fully with the investigation, according to the report. The report concluded that Snyder sexually harassed former team employee Tiffani Johnston, allegations that Johnston first made last year in front of a House committee. Snyder placed his hand on Johnston’s thigh at a team dinner and pushed her toward his car as they were leaving the restaurant, the report said.

After years of ignoring requests from Native American tribes to change the name, the Washington Redskins are listening to their main sponsor and changing their name. “Today, we are announcing we will be retiring the Redskins name and logo,” reads a statement released by the team on Monday. “Owner Dan Snyder and Coach Rivera are working closely to develop a new name and design approach that will enhance the standing of our proud, tradition rich franchise and inspire our sponsors, fans and community for the next 100 years.”

Notice how they led with “sponsors.”

Washington name change: Team plans to scrap Native American imagery but keep color scheme, per reports

More details are emerging concerning Washington's name change

It's pretty incredible what can happen in the span a week. We went from Dan Snyder and his Washington franchise conducting an internal review on its team name to companies pulling apparel off their shelves and powerful stakeholders raising their voices in hopes of change. It now appears more evident than ever that Washington will indeed change its team name, but what will that look like? Will Washington keep its burgundy and gold? On Wednesday, two key developments surfaced regarding Washington's name change.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Washington is planning to have no Native American imagery, per a league source. This is probably one of the most obvious developments -- since the team name is considered an offensive slur. Either way, Washington will be moving away from anything even relating to Native Americans, whether it be weapons or headdresses/feathers.

Not long after Schefter's update, ESPN's John Keim reported that Washington plans to keep its colors of burgundy and gold "as of now."

One option that could be a nice fit is one that quarterback Dwayne Haskins is in support of: The Redtails. This name has an intriguing history as the Red Tails are a tribute to the planes flown by the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first Black military aviators that served in the United States Army during World War II. Three of the first five admitted airmen were from Washington, serving as a connection to the city and the armed forces.
