Does the Dance Central fandom even exist anymore? Am I too late? Did it ever exist?
I just started playing it on Oculus Quest like 2 weeks ago and I forgot that the franchise was a thing that existed when the cursed xbox kinect was still a thing. I need content... and backstory. Someone help me.
WOW. Been a long time since I’ve posted anything on here. *blows off dust* Whew..
Well, most of you probably already heard the news: DANCE CENTRAL IS BACK! Sorta. It seems the only platform it’ll be available on is the Oculus, which is kinda bad news if you don’t have one and don’t wanna plunk down the money to get an Oculus just for this one game. At the same time though, it makes sense. The Kinect is as dead as a door nail at this point, and while the Switch is a powerful piece of hardware, it may not be powerful enough for what Harmonix may want for this next installment. Although, I’m hoping that if this game does do well, there will be a Switch version.
I’m also hoping there’s gonna be more characters. The ones we have so far:
Yeah, you thought that was Taye up there, didn’t you? So did I. Which makes me wonder why they didn’t just use Taye if they weren’t even gonna bother to make Hart look different from her. Maybe she’s an older sister, who knows? Again, I’m hoping for the reveal of more characters down the line. I’m also Very happy that Oblio is back~~~<3
Although I’m a bit disappointed that it’s gonna be and most likely stay an Oculus exclusive, it’s still great to know that the series isn’t dead just yet.

Anybody remember when Dance Central games were at E3? Back when Harmonix was still a thing? How about the epic Usher reveal?
Now look at where we are. Harmonix is nowhere near E3.
And it's not just Dance Central people are up in arms about-people are also asking for new DLC for other HMX games and protesting bugs in other HMX games too.
But they're getting nowhere.
Meanwhile, there are countless comments about how pretty much every other game studio has miserably failed to impress at E3 2021. With Ubisoft, it's 'where's Splinter Cell?'. Square-Enix fans want a new Deus Ex game, and some more FF7R and FF16 news.
While it's comforting to know that Harmonix isn't the only company that's flipping off its own series, it's actually overwhelmingly sad how almost every company's failing so many fans right now.
We can safely say that the only game developers that AREN'T horrible right now are Nintendo and Capcom.
What I Want in Dance Central 4:
Anything, as long as it wouldn't be another Spotlight.
I'll take anything other than Spotlight 2 at this point. We don't even have to continue where DC3 left off. Ever.
I just wish Harmonix wouldn't be so damn weird about their own series.
I get it. The Kinect is (supposedly) gone. 2020 sucked for every last creature on this planet. The pandemic most likely affected Harmomix in a negative way, the same way every other thing on Earth was affected. There may only be like 5 people left on the team due to layoffs and budget cuts.
But if you're not going to carry on a series any more, retire it. It can't be that hard to make a Facebook or Twitter post saying 'sorry, Dance Central's done, it's not a thing anymore'.
which makes me wonder: since harmonix hasn't made an official statement about dance central retiring, are they at some point going to just come out of nowhere and go 'SURPRISE, DANCE CENTRAL 4/DANCE CENTRAL VR 2 IS COMING'?
one can only keep hoping.
There's still someone in love with Dance Central. In 2021.
While I never had the honor of playing any of the games, I experienced the series through Youtube, Fanfiction.net and DeviantArt. I still watch Youtube videos of the games to this day.
My relationship with the series has been an emotional one. I was introduced to DC1 as a blind date, and was instantly smitten. The honeymoon period continued with DC2.
I was euphoric over the DC3 trailer that released while DC2 was still very much a thing. It was a relationship full of romance, action and wonder. I couldn't have been happier.
DC3 and its fandom got me through an incredibly rough patch in my life. Dance Central was my comfort blanket then. It held me close. Made me smile.
But then our relationship tapered off after DC3.
Much to my surprise, the series told me we needed some time apart. That declaration came out of nowhere, but with no small amount of sadness, I accepted it. So we went our separate ways, me feeling as though I had to abandon a huge part of myself.
Then DCS was announced. Finally, I thought, after so long I was FINALLY going to be reunited with my long lost love! And it was going to be just as it was before!
Only it wasn't.
DC came back into my life all right, but I could hardly recognize it. And it was as if it had started dating someone else. Without telling me anything. The only happiness I got out of DCS was Glitch.
(so yeah, i was one of the five people that actually loved his redesign)
My time with DCS was bittersweet. While I was happy to see Dance Central again, too much had changed for the worse, and even more was removed.
Once again, we went our separate ways, DC going off on a path far, far away from mine. Despite being brokenhearted, I was hopeful we'd meet again. And maybe, just maybe, we'd go back to the way we were.
Several years later, DCVR was announced. DC had once again evolved into something I couldn't recognize, but it was happy to see me. I couldn't buy into its return for a long time, though. Even though DC had come back, I felt so much of it was still missing.
Fast forward to March 12 2021. I finally realized I had been completely wrong about DCVR, thanks to a Youtube review of the game (and Mo's voicelines). I now see DCVR as a fun, magical adventure. One packed with adorable character lore.
Unfortunately, Dance Central left me once again, perhaps feeling as though I didn't appreciate it enough. So once again, our time together was painfully short.
But I still have faith we'll go back to the way we were. Even if the series remains in VR mode.
Random DC Headcanons.
Mo and Maccoy were the best of friends for many years before dating. Their romantic relationship ended like a field of land mines all going off at once, leaving Mo depressed and listless for several months.
Angel's last name is Santana, tying him to musician Carlos Santana (plus I just thought the last name was pretty).
Angel and Aubrey are close friends, despite Aubrey constantly shutting the flirtatious Angel down.
All of the dancers dote on Mo, some referring to him with terms of endearment. Emilia and Aubrey call him 'sweetie', Taye calls him 'Tiger', Bodie calls him 'Chief' and Hart has no tolerance for anyone bothering him.
Rasa is a second father to Mo.
Bodie works as a lifeguard outside of Dance Central and local dance competitions.
In the original trilogy verse, DCI supports the crews' personal lives with massive pension-like payments, leaving them to do as they please without having to worry about money.
Angel and Mo are similar, as both come off as cocky and self-absorbed but actually suffer from deep insecurities
In the VR verse, Maccoy works behind the scenes as a DJ. Due to the horribly messy nature of their breakup, he and Mo rarely interact. And when they do, they treat each other as though they barely know each other.
Which results in none of the other VR dancers liking Coy. Hart wants to strangle him every time she sees him.
After breaking up with Maccoy, VR Mo constantly tries to pick up girls to cover up the open, bleeding wounds, and as a way to mask his sexuality (because dating guys in the first place doesn't equal manliness?). But he's pansexual, having no real preference for gender.
Bodie adores clam chowder and potato chowder.
Glitch, in the original trilogy verse, blossoms into an incredibly attractive, creative and popular dancer shortly after Spotlight.
While OG Glitch was homeless before being found by Mo, VR Glitch lives with his mother and hangs out with Mo and the others on weekends.
Like Mo, VR and OG Glitch suffer from deep-rooted insecurities. Glitch longs to feel like he belongs somewhere with someone-even truer with VR Glitch because he's banned from all club activities.
Drew my avatar for Dance Central on the Oculus because why not
