What people think teaching dance is like: ah sweet, kids are adorable, you must love doing your dream job, kids are hilarious, aww that’s so rewarding.
What teaching kids dance is actually like: FUCKING HEAD LICE AGAIN
"Miss Cassie, why are you all dressed up?" Hashtag I'm not. I just look like a human being today. #danceteacherproblems #teamfusion #killinit
Being a dance teacher really is a thankless job. This kid thinks they can choreograph better than you, that parent is pissed because you’re making her buy appropriate attire for her kid to participate in the class, everyone is constantly trying to get out of doing anything. I love this job but I’m tired of the bullshitty parts of it. I’m tired of everyone being a bitch baby. This month has just really tested my love of being a dance teacher
I’m a little pissed to hear one of my dancer tell me that another girl said she could have choreographed the dance better than me, her teacher. First of all, it’s just disrespectful and she wouldn’t have said it if it had been any of the other teacher at our studio. Second, I went to college to study dance. Third, this is a style our studio has never performed ever. It’s an entirely new style to them. Just because she’s never done this before and doesn’t want to learn something new doesn’t mean this dance isn’t good. Fourth, I have poured my heart and soul into this dance. I have dedicated months to choreographing. I’ve literally worked on this while at my full time job. To hear someone say that they could have done better when they take a few hours of lessons a week is upsetting.
The day I started teaching my choreo I almost threw up I was so nervous. All I could think was “what if they hate my dance and think I suck as a choreographer?” My choreo is so personal to me and such a part of me that to share it and hear someone say they could do better literally made me cry. I’m an adult and I got in my car and cried about something a teenager said about me! To me I can’t even focus on the fact that so many of them love the choreo and one girl said that this dance is her favorite and it’s incredible and she’s learning so much from being in this class. I can’t focus on the good because one girl, who I actually liked, talked shit about my choreography
It's my first class back tomorrow and I haven't choreographed anything to teach my students
Because I actually wear clothes sometimes.
when you can't do the left side of your own choreography
