📽 1948: Moonrise is an American film noir crime film starring Dane Clark, Gail Russell, Ethel Barrymore and Lloyd Bridges.
• In a small Virginia town, Danny Hawkins (Clark) is the son of a murderer who was hanged for his crime. Throughout his childhood, he is haunted by his father's past and cruelly harassed by other children. As an adult, Danny is bullied by Jerry Sykes (Bridges). After a particularly intense confrontation in the woods during a town dance, Danny and Jerry fight and Danny kills him in self-defense. Danny is unaware that he lost his pocket knife in the struggle. Danny then dances with Gilly Johnson (Russell), who was to be engaged to Jerry. While driving Gilly and two of their friends, Danny struggles with his guilt, and drives recklessly in the rain, crashing. (Republic Pictures)
Dane Clark was born on February 26, 1912, and was signed by Warner Bros. in 1943 after having worked in theater in New York. He worked alongside some of his era's biggest stars, often in war movies such as Action in the North Atlantic (1943), his breakthrough part, opposite Humphrey Bogart. He supported Bette Davis and Glenn Ford in A Stolen Life (1946) and was promoted to top billing for Her Kind of Man (1946) with Zachary Scott and Janis Paige. He followed it with Deep Valley (1947) with Ida Lupino. He continued to work until 1989 in both film and television. He considered himself mainly a character actor and labeled himself, "Joe Average." He died in 1998 at the age of 86.
