me and taffy were talking about this au today and how much we love and missed it! so i thought i would write out all the lore we had conjured when we had first started talking about it last year. the whole idea honestly started from taffy and was an idea we kinda developed together so it’s something we both really love!

𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝

the basis of the au is that the ackerman and jaeger family are both mafia families, at one point they had been on good terms, but during the time of the au, the are now rival mafia families

mikasa has been very sheltered her whole life, she actually knows nothing about her family’s mafia ties, and grew up a regular life. in her eyes she just thinks her family owns a regular, very successful business. part of her nativity to the entirety of their shenanigans is because she was sent to boarding school most of her life, so she was able to be kept away from any potential dangers

when mikasa comes back from boarding school and college, she opens up a relatively successful bakery in the city. her family goes there to see her, but she’s still none the wiser of their familial affairs, and now being at an age where she doesn’t see them all that often having moved out, it’s easier to keep her away from the things they do

eren grows up very aware of what it is his family does, and eventually ends up following down the same path into joining alongside them, as is typical of men in mafia families

after a conflict occurs between the ackerman and jaeger families, in order to hold something over them, the jaeger family goes after the beloved daughter of the ackerman family who they know has a popular bakery in the city. they take her away to a remote cabin, and eren is tasked with watching her

𝐦𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐬𝐚

like i said before, she's very naïve, so she's mostly unaware of everything that's going on with her family, when she gets kidnapped, she's obviously scared, but is also confused about what's going on when she's eren, and why she's being treated mostly well (they do want to keep her alive)

the news of her family comes as a big shock to her, and she's more angry than anything about the whole ordeal

she spends a lot of time worrying more about her bakery than anything—something that she cares about very deeply

she tries to make the best of the situation, but it all comes as a shock to her, but overall she is mostly indifferent towards eren

bakes a lot while they're stuck together

his life in comparison to mikasa's was very different, he went through a lot growing up, and never reaped the benefits of the luxuries that the mafia can provide

he's very quiet and just tries to get his job done, didn't want to be put on this task in the first place because he didn't know how long he'd be gone for

thinking that mikasa is a mafia brat, he anticipates a lot of combativeness from her, but once he realizes she's completely unaware of the situation, he feels a bit sympathetic for her, knowing she shouldn't have been involved in something like this
