Dani Ceballos is reportedly keen to join Real Betis this summer (Getty Images)Dani Ceballos has snubbed a potential return to Arsenal and has told Real Madrid that he wants to join Real Betis, according to reports in Spain. The midfielder spent last season on loan with the Gunners and ended the campaign strongly as he formed a solid midfield partnership with Granit Xhaka. Ceballos also helped Arsenal beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final earlier this month and Arteta made it clear that he is keen for the 24-year-old to remain at the club. However, sources in Spain earlier this month claimed that Real Madrid are now planning to keep Ceballos for their pre-season campaign in order to give him a chance to convince Zinedine Zidane that he is worthy of a regular first-team role. Arsenal had hoped to secure Ceballos for a second season-long loan but according to Mundo Deportivo, the Spaniard has now told Madrid’s hierarchy that his preference is to return to Real Betis. The report claims that Ceballos is aware that his chances of winning over Zidane are slim and he has instructed Madrid’s hierarchy that he would prefer to play for Real Betis in order to receive regular football. The midfielder joined Betis at the age of 15 in 2011 and went on to make 105 appearances for the club before he was bought by Real Madrid in 2017. Ceballos has also revealed that Betis’ hierarchy kept in contact with him throughout his loan spell at Arsenal last season. Arsenal want to keep Dani Ceballos on loan for another season – but he could return to Real Betis (Getty Images/Instagram)Arsenal fans will be hoping Dani Ceballos has not dropped a hint over his future after the midfielder was pictured wearing a Real Betis shirt on holiday. Ceballos has just spent the season on loan at Arsenal from Real Madrid and helped the Gunners beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are keen to keep Ceballos on loan for another season but the club must negotiate a new deal with Madrid, who are yet to make a decision over the midfielder’s future. Ceballos has made it clear that he wants regular football and has already warned Madrid that he will seek a move away if he is not guaranteed to play 35 games under Zinedine Zidane next season. But following Arsenal’s success in the FA Cep final at Wembley earlier this month, Ceballos also revealed that Real Betis have kept in contact with him and refused to rule out a return to his boyhood club. ‘I have a lot of love for Betis, for everyone that works at the club,’ said the midfielder. ‘They know the love I have for them and we’ve been in contact all season. Betis means a lot to me.’ Dani Ceballos played Parcheesi with his friends whilst wearing a Real Betis shirt (Instagram)And Ceballos has now fuelled speculation after he was pictured wearing a Real Betis shirt whilst playing a game of Parcheesi with his friends on Monday evening. Ceballos joined Betis at the age of 15 in 2011 and went on to make 105 appearances for the club before he was sold to Madrid in 2017. Dani Ceballos has returned to the Arsenal starting line-up in recent weeks and is beginning to show why he was signed on loan in the summer. Injury has hindered much of his season but he is beginning to prove that he is worthy of a place in the Gunners side, slotting in well to a deeper position in midfield that has helped the North London outfit lose just one of their last six games. His manager has shared his delight at the performances of the Spaniard and his recent contribution, while also revealing that there have not yet been any discussions about the possibility of signing him on a permanent basis at the end of the season. That has sparked a discussion amongst the fanbase about whether that is the right course of action to take, but some supporters are not convinced that he is the player to take the team forward on the pitch. The Spanish midfielder missed Arsenal’s last 14 Premier League matches (Picture: Getty)Mikel Arteta has praised Dani Ceballos’ performance in Sunday’s win over Newcastle while the midfielder was thrilled to play in the Premier League for the first time since November. Ceballos’ future was up in the air during the January window, with rumours suggesting he wanted his loan with the Gunners terminated so he could return to La Liga and get more game time ahead of the Euros. But he remained in north London and, after finally overcoming his injury issues, made his first Premier League appearance since a 1-1 draw with Wolves on November 2. Ceballos was brought into the side to provide more creativity (Picture: Getty)Arteta felt he wanted a more creative presence in his midfield to unlock Newcastle’s deep defence at the Emirates and was happy with Ceballos’ display in the 4-0 win, also praising his efforts in training to win back his place. Asked if both Ceballos and Mesut Ozil being in the starting XI could become a regular occurrence, Arteta replied: ‘Depending how they are, how they train, how they perform. ‘But I thought Dani was ideal for that game, in that position, today. The way he has been training he completely deserves a chance and I’m so glad with his performance.’ In another interview with BBC Sport, he added: ‘He was injured and when he started to train I didn’t think he was fit enough. He completely changed his behaviour and trained like an animal. I thought he was the best player on the pitch.’ MORE: ARSENAL FC Ian Wright rates Arsenal's chances of Champions League qualification after Newcastle winMesut Ozil sends message to Arsenal fans after ending goalless run in win over NewcastleMikel Arteta reveals how Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette reacted to being droppedCeballos missed over a month with a hamstring injury and then struggled to force his way into Arteta’s thinking after Unai Emery was sacked.
