Orphan by itself is a perfectly good film However i do wish they’d explored the psychological horror aspects of it more tbh. Kate loses her baby, carrying it for sixteen days inside of her and then immediately gets Esther into her household? Esther cuts the roses where this baby’s dead ashes are–did those ashes fall on her then? Synbolically speaking Esther becomes that dead baby that Kate grieves for–or the ghost of her, here to haunt and punish and guilt-trap Kate for her death and Kate’s alcoholism, even at the risk of losing her other kids to Esther (the dead baby)

They really didn’t handle their son’s shitty behavior at the dinner table well. They took away his treehouse and told him he’d get it back when he apologized. Doesn’t seem like the appropriate response when there’s a personal wrong done. I feel like it’s different from “you got a bad grade, I’m taking your treehouse away.” There’s an active transgression going on between siblings within the same household. Like you didn’t nip it in the bud.

What’s wrong with cutting your steak in pieces before eating? Sometimes, you get motivated to do multiple pieces instead of bite by bite. Forget sending Esther to a therapist, maybe consider sending your kid who clearly isn’t taking too well to a new adoptive sibling to get some therapy. 🙄 Feels a little ‘boys will be boys and be mean to girls.’

Maybe don’t SHOOT AT BIRDS THEN YOU WOULDN’T HAVE TO PUT THEM OUT OF THEIR MISERY OR TELL YOUR PARENTS WHAT YOU DID TO GET IT TAKEN TO THE VET.
