A lot of people seem to think that Luigi Mangione can't really be the shooter because it seems off that he could so competently carry out the hit and then fuck up so badly he got caught at a McDonald's still with all the relevant stuff on him (fake IDs, the gun etc). To me, this tracks, as it reminds me a lot of Daniel Khalife. If you're unfamiliar, Daniel Khalife is a guy who successfully escaped from a Category B prison (Category B is one level below maximum security), only to be found less than ten miles away three days later. One of the pieces of evidence that led to him being caught was that he was seen on CCTV in a shop looking at newspaper articles about himself. Oh, and what was he in prison for in the first place? He was accused of spying for Iran, something that no one knew he was doing until he phoned MI5 offering to become a double agent. He has now been found guilty of the spying. To me, it seems like a similar situation of someone being brave enough and smart enough to pull off the big heist, but not thinking through the long-term plan. Many such cases.
