Solitaire Headcanon !!

Okay, as you can probably tell, I have WAY too many headcanons in my fics.

Right now, I want to explain one I’ve had in mind for ages but never really shared. You can agree or disagree with me, everyone has their own take.

For me, Tori is the kind of girl who has more guy friends than girl friends.

Yes, she does have female friends. Becky is one of them (plus some ocs I’ve created) but it’s always been easier for her to befriend guys than girls.

It’s not something she particularly likes. In fact, she doesn’t like it at all.

She’s not super feminine, but she’s not a tomboy either. Solitaire is set in years when I was really little, so I couldn’t possibly know how girls acted back then.

But since I usually set my stories in the present to make writing easier, one of her main struggles would be, as always, the whole “pick me” label.

She isn’t one. She never would be. But for some girls, especially teenagers, it’s easier to throw that term around just to avoid interacting with her or to talk badly about her.

It’s the kind of conversation she’d often have with Michael. About the label, about her group of friends. Michael would laugh: “But you’re not like that.” She’d just sigh and whisper, “I know.”

She wouldn’t try to defend herself. Or change anyone’s opinion.

She’d feel like she couldn’t.

She and Michael would be together, then see a group of girls walking by, laughing and chatting. Michael would notice she’d gone quiet and glance at her.

Tori never says it out loud.

But the thought always lingers:

“It’d be nice to have a group like that.” Like before. Before Solitaire happened. Before everything.

In that moment, the world makes her feel like her only friend is her boyfriend.

Her parents would argue with her about it. Jane would say: “Your boyfriend can’t be your best friend. If you break up, you’ll be alone.” And Tori would never answer, because she knew it was true.

It’s only when she enters university that she meets more girls. At first, she doesn’t really click with them. But as time goes on, they get closer and eventually become friends. Good friends.
