Gay Code (Danbeau and Dankyrie)
Due to Brie Larson showing support for the fandom, do you think shipping Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) with Maria Rambeau and Valkyrie quee
I've had a thing for people in uniform all my life. I always liked them, not the whole theme of war or what soldiers have to go through on a battlefield, but rather the "romantic" part of it all (if there really is any). Perhaps it is the meaning of being a soldier and serving the country when he is at risk and all that it entails when said soldier dies and his belongings are given to the family. Maybe that's why when this article talks about the subject (not Queerbainting per se, but something more concrete), it leaves you wondering. There is a section of the article that says this:
"Brie Larson and Tessa Thompson have taken to social media to show their support for the ship involving Carol Danvers and Valkyrie. Larson has also shown support for the ship involving Carol and Maria Rambeau.
When it comes to Carol and Maria, there is a lot of content in Captain Marvel which has allowed certain fans to see how the two could be romantically involved. It is because Carol and Maria’s relationship is romance coded. This means there are certain characteristics given to their relationship which imply a romance.
I mean, where were Carol’s dog tags sent? Think about it"
The part that says about Carol's dog tags sent to María's house?
This? This is important. It is important and I had never thought about the implications because part of the "romanticism" of a soldier who died in combat is that the belongings of said soldier go to his/her immediate family and in the case of Carol Danvers, family means family Rambeau, but with a detail:
The movie never makes it clear whether Carol's parents or siblings are still alive.
It's an important detail because it's something the army and air force would do in real life. Handing over the belongings of a fallen soldier to the immediate family, not to the foster family as is the case with the Rambeau with Carol.
So thinking about that, it really makes sense that, no matter how much the Captain Marvel movie talks about the friendship relationship between Carol and Maria, there will always be that glimmer of knowing that there is something more, than the constant support of Brie and her desire related to her franchise ships to have more LGBTI visibility makes sense and I can't see it as Queerbaiting because at least from what I've seen, it's something the lead actress has always wanted for her Carol Danvers character.
Also not for nothing Brie has already left public clues that she can be anything but heterosexual on her YouTube channel. And that to me, knowing how the entertainment industries are run only means one thing: If Brie has intentions (or hers to team hers in this case) of hers to let her come out publicly it will not be something personal to Brie Larson as a person, but to Brie Larson as an actress. I mean, she would be allowed to come out publicly just in case Marvel intends to also bring Carol Danvers out of the closet and make the character as realistic as possible and that means not having a straight actress playing LGBTI characters and that's it. something the community always appreciates. (Even if I personally feel like Brie has always been anything but straight.)
(And yeah, if the movie canon killed María when Mónica was missing during the blip, Carol would have María's dog tags and even the ones from Mónica, so damn sad 😭😭)
