My Montana {Chapter 12 - Date}
They drive for about 15 minutes; the roads were getting less like roads and more like walking trails.
"Cole where are you taking me? Are we even allowed to be driving here?" Cole laughs and shakes his head.
"I don't know, but I have never got in trouble for it before," Josie raises her eyebrows and chuckles, it was such a Cole thing to say.
"So, what on earth is this far out, that you decided that it was a perfect spot for our first date," Cole looks at her from the corner of his eye and smirks.
"Trust me," is all he says before turning his attention back to the road. Josie leans back into her seat and smiles, how could she not.
"Close your eyes," he instructs her a few minutes later, Josie looks over at him, eyebrows scrunched together in confusion. "Please," sighing, her eyes fall closed welcoming the darkness, the sound of the car intensifying with the lack of sight. It felt longer than it probably was when she felt the car come to a halt. "Wait right here," Cole says to her, the door opening and closing behind him. Her heart started to race as the silence fills the car, the temptation to open her eyes was overwhelming, she squeezed them harder to stop herself.
Something became brighter somewhere, lights were now glowing in the darkness causing her heart to slow ever so slightly. The pop of the door handle being pulled made her jump as it is gently pulled opened. "Hey, just me. Keep your eyes closed," she smiles at the sound of his voice.
"Wouldn't want to break my promise now would I," Cole chuckles causing her heart to leap in her chest, she loved the sound of it.
"Take my hand," his hand intertwined itself with hers and his rough hand fitted into her softer tone. She was pulled out of the car; Coles other hand brushes the back of her back as he closes the door behind them. "There is a slight hill we have to go down, so hold on tight," his hand connects with the middle of her back and she can't help but lose a breath. It was only maybe about a 50-foot walk before Cole brings them to a stop.
"Right, on my count of 3, I want you to open your eyes. 1... 2... 3," the bright lights take her aback, she blinks a few times before the view in front of her comes into focus. A red and white blanket is laid on the ground, a few battery lanterns are placed on top stopping it from moving and illuminating the wicker basket that it sat in the middle. The river flows behind, the sound of the water, flowing past created a gentle environment.
"Cole," she gasps out.
"Do you like it," she looks at him and smiles.
"Its perfect," she could make out the red decorating his cheeks and a smirk plays on his lips. His grip tightens on hers as he pulls them forwards, both coming to sit. Josies gaze looks around her, the beauty of the place as the moon shines over the valley.
"How did you find this place?"
"I found it one time when I was out driving about, needed some peace and quiet and came across this. I usually come here when I need time to think and just to get away from all of it, the noise," Josies lips lift in a gentle smile and nods. "Now I will admit that I didn't think dinner through properly, so I hope that you are okay for settling for a PB&J sandwich, courtesy of Parker and Benny, which knowing them its probably more jelly than peanut butter," Josies head falls back with a laugh.
"Its perfect," taking the sloppy sandwich from his hand. They both bite into their sandwiches, a comfortable silence falling over them.
"I have dreamt about this, our first date," her gaze meets his.
"You have?"
"Oh yeah, hundreds of times. Sometimes its been us in a restaurant us sharing a pizza. Other times its us been going to watch a movie, usually on of those crappy romcoms that you love, and us sharing a bucket of popcorn," she smiles.
"So why did you choose this?" Cole smiles.
"Because I have never brought anyone here before, I don't think I have even told anyone about this place but... you were the only person that I wanted to bring here. Us being here and eating these sandwiches is better than anything else," her breathe catches in her throat and it felt like her heart could soar. "Your special to me Montana," their eyes meet, and rouge decorates their cheeks.
"Your special to me too Cole," she utters, their smirks grow wider, their cheeks hurting. Cole places down his sandwich, clambering to his feet.
"What are you doing?" Cole doesn't say anything, simply pulling his phone out and typing something into it. With in a few seconds music fills the air and Josie smiles as she listens to the lyrics.
Out on our own
Dreaming in a world that we both know
Is out of our control
But if shit hits the fan we're not alone
'Cause you've got me and you know
That I've got you and I know
"Dance with me," Cole asks her, his hand stretched out to her. With a smile, she takes it letting him effortlessly pull her up. She gasps slightly, as her and Coles faces come close together. Cole doesn't look fazed, his hand snaking around her waist, holding her. "This, okay?" not being able to form the words, she simply nods, and Cole starts to sway them.
If the tide takes California
I'm so glad I got to hold ya
And if the sky falls from heaven above
Oh, I know I had the best time falling into love
We've been living on a fault line
And for a while, you were all mine
I've spent a lifetime giving you my heart
I swear that I'll be yours forever
'Til forever falls apart
'Til forever falls apart
Josie bites her lip, fighting back a smile and she rounds her arms around Cole's neck, looking into his eyes, their dance slowing ever so slightly.
"I really want to kiss you," Cole confesses, and it was the first time that she had seen him nervous the entire night.
"Then do it," she doesn't even realise what she had said until Coles lips are on hers and she realised that this was real. Coles arms tightened around her waist as he kissed her slow and steady but God she wanted to scream for more, more of him. Sighing, her hands move up and her fingers entangle in his hair, pulling slightly. That was all Cole needed to kiss her deeper, all the years of longing seeping out of his body as he kisses her deeper.
"Cole," she gasps as their lips part slightly. Cole pulls back and looks at her, her eyes were closed, her cheeks read and her chest rising and falling quickly. He takes a step back.
"Sorry, I got... carried away," Josie's eyes were now opened, and she couldn't help the chuckles escaping her lips.
"No, its fine. I... really liked that," Cole smirks at her.
"Oh really..." he takes a step closer to her, pulling her back into him, their noses practically touching. She hums.
"Yeah, I did. I think we should do more of that," Cole sighs before taking her lips in a soft kiss again. Josie smiles, loving the feeling of his lips on hers. After what only seems like moments, they break apart, their foreheads leaning against each other. Cole's hand runs down the side of her face.
"We should probably head back soon," disappointment was clear in his voice. She sighs, her head falling to the crook of his neck.
"I feel like we only just got here," Cole chuckles and nods.
"I know. But I promised your Aunt Hat that I would get you back home at a decent hour and I don't want to start this off on the wrong foot," Josie huffs.
"It's only Aunt Hat, I don't think that she is going to be upset if we are a little late," Cole's mouth falls open, eyebrows raised.
"Wow, who knew that you had a rebellious side, date one and you are already suggesting we break curfew," his teases her, Josie giggles, arms tighten around his waist.
"I just don't want this night to be over. I like being here with you," Cole smiles, his cheek coming to rest on the top of her head.
"Well, I don't think see any reason why we can't do this more often, could take you to the cinema, grab pizza after," Josie smiles, moving her head out from the crook of his neck and taking his cheeks in her hands, her lips meet his in a light kiss.
"I would like that."
Their walk to the front door was slow, their hands we intertwined, swaying slightly between the two of them, smiles etched on their faces. Josie takes the first step and as she goes to take the second Cole pulls her gently to turn and face him, a giggle tumbles from her lips as their faces come close together.
"I think this is where we are supposed to say goodnight," Josie groans at this and wraps her arms around his shoulders, Cole having to tilt his head back slightly as she towers over him.
"Pick me up for school tomorrow," Cole chuckles and nods.
"Don't I always," their lips meet and in that moment they forget that they are on the steps to her porch, on a street where the neighbour could possibly see, but they didn't care. They end the kiss and sigh as they separate their bodies. Josie takes a step up and looks back at Cole with a smile.
"See you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow Montana," he turns and walks back towards his truck, Josie cant help but stand and watch him, it was only when his truck is out of sight that she opens the front door, letting herself in. She leans her back into the door.
"So, I'm assuming you had a good date," Hattie looks over at her from her seat on the couch but she already knew the answer, the girl was grinning like the cheshire cat.
"It was perfect."
