More updates from my recent visit to Whitchurch and surrounding area. This time I'm sharing some photos from Danson's Wood. Visiting Danson's Wood was a strange time-travelling experience. The territory sits between the canal and the Whitchurch bypass and you can find it if you walk around 15-20 minutes along the canal towpath from Grindley Brook in the direction of Whitchurch. You can get to Danson's Wood using a small footbridge over the canal. I'm positing images of the wood as it currently is because I have vivid memories of the place when it was wildflower meadow which had been planted with saplings by the Woodland Trust. Over the course of around 20 years those saplings have grown into trees. The wood would probably not be especially notable to me if I didn't have the sharply contrasting images of the two time periods in my mind. There is a very small pond in the middle of the wood. When I last saw it it was surrounded by meadow and scrub. Now it's surrounded by young and semi-mature trees.
