its Dantedì!!! so im back with a Dante drawing
and Statius and Virgil
i took dantedí as an occasion to rearrange my dante shelves, and i figured that for this special day i could share these old editions of two cantiche of the divine comedy, purgatorio and paradiso, that i found in an antique market, two of which were clearly used by schoolkids and still have their notes and doodles inside. sorry the idea of past generations of italian kids studying dante and taking their notes and doing silly little drawings inside their schoolbooks like we did made me emotional ok.
this one was printed in 1979 and, if i'm deciphering some of the scribbles correctly, belonged to francesco:
this one was printed in 1968 and, in case you couldn't notice, it very clearly belonged to mary, but also to rosanna, who i assume was mary's relative because they both used the same last name, but as her name appears only once i assume mary is the girl reponsible for dante's sick as fuck bangs on the cover:
(in case mary's chaoticness wasn't obvious yet, this copy is absolutely torn apart and only kept together by my makeshift plastic dust jacket. yeah)
and then, my favourite, the absolute silliest:
pocket purgatorio from 1891!!!
25 March: Happy Dantedì.
First of the two sonnet to Dante Alighieri, by Michelangelo Buonarroti.
translations by John Addington Symonds (1904), Ednah D. Cheney (1885), William Wells Newell (1900). In the original order listed by Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger, it's numbered as Rima 248. Pictures with details of the saved souls from the Last Judgement, Sistine Chapel.
Virgil: I am at a loss for words!!
Dante: Despite being lost for words Virgil yelled at me for the next 45 minutes.
Today in Italy is Dantedì, a day dedicated to Dante Alighieri. Happy Dantedì, and remember to went astray <3
