Mon-El favourite episode/ scene: Supergirl Lives 2x09
Mon-El Appreciation Week-Day 2
I love this episode. It had almost everything I love about Mon-El and Karamel (only exception: no kisses).
We have character development, charm, laughs, bonding between our space puppies, club soda & the coach, and Mon-El finally deciding to be a hero.
The first thing we know about Mon-El is that after that kiss they don't want to talk about he found a job as bartender (on his own). Kara asks for a club soda and he notices that she is worried, asking her to talk to him. He always notices her.
He goes to Kara's work to ask her out for lunch (on a date?) and when she tell him that she is working he remembers the case that was important to her and offers to go with her. He remembers and just wants to spend time with her.
And then we have one of the funniest Karamel scenes ever. Undercover Danthews shenanigans are seriously hilarious. Paris City.
He then helps Kara fight the aliens, later following and saving her (she could be hurt because she had no powers).
We have a lot of moments when Kara explains him her philosophy but they are also clearly bonding because of their shared memories and experiences as the last children of dead worlds. And their obvious connection.
Mon-El starts the episode being selfish and coward but ends it fighting.
And standing up in the line of fire, knowing that in a red sun planet he is not invulnerable. It's amazing how he does it even if we know he is scared.
We end the adventure with this moment when Kara and Mon-El are completely in synch. Also I love this team so much.
But my favourite Mon-El and Karamel scene EVER, which is also in this episode, is on the couch. This moment when Mon-El covers himself with the red blanket while Kara can't stop giggling made me fall in love with this couple and this chemistry forever. Kevin Smith agrees and has gushed at length about this scene and Melwood being adorable every time they are together. Charm City. Motherfucker deeply in love.
And this moment is the one that explains Mon-El's hero journey: recognising that the Prince of Daxam (=himself) was not worth admiring but he wanted to be. And that he had been inspired by Kara to be a superhero. Like her. With a cape. He had decided to help her to keep the world spinning to prove that he had been spared for a reason.
Kara told him that the cape could be heavy and it would not be easy. Damn. She was right. They have lost each other too many times because heroes put others first.
I will forever love and admire Mon-El. He deserved better #JusticeForMonEl
