Danur Universe's Butchering of Characters

You, dear readers, might not even know what I am talking about. Well, to sum it up, the Danur Universe was born out of the 2011 book about a ghost-seeing girl: Danur. It has grown over the years through books and movies.

To be honest, despite people might be calling it a silly little story, I love it. It's not your typical collection ghost stories. It pushes forward the humanity of these figures through tragedies, making them less like scary monsters and more like people without physical bodies. The characters' nature as people first and foremost is always put forward. I love it for that.

Among all the different books and anthologies, my favorite still is the one called Ivanna. Despite disliking parts of the book because the writing style (which I find inefficient), I still find the story it tries to tell extremely intriguing. Here you have a young woman whom by life had been dealt with difficult cards due to the clashing of idealism and the social reality of the time. Her parents were good people with good intentions, who because of their naivety, sadly made poor choices for their children by treating the locals as equals (it was early 20th century Ned-In, it wasn't fashionable). Their social life crumbled from that point. People saw them as progressive weirdos and treated them outcast.

Ivanna, confused by how others mistreated her family despite doing what she viewed as right, resented them. She actually ended up as a reclusive ball of anger. Until one day it just got worse from there, and her attitude was wholly "Fuck everyone".

She was actually a very interesting character. A tragic villain of a quite complex kind. But the movies ruined her.

She wasn't treated as a person that has been dealt with heavy hands in life, traumatized, and angry, with hatred fueling many of her actions later on. She was treated as a mindless killer, snapping necks, with only one reason to do so: a Japanese soldier and some locals decapitated me during WW2, so now I'm gonna prevent everyone from having functioning heads. Which was very lame compared to her book "falling into the Dark Side" story. Plus, the story of her family —which contributed 86% to her downfall— was only mention in passing. The rest was mindless killings.

Plus, she was said to be quite tall, wears red, and was short-haired (probably in those pretty 1930s/40s style). In the movie she was wearing a long white nightgown with a long, yellowish hair.
