A dinner with friends was the perfect occasion to steal a bottle from our inventory - a 2014 Touriga Nacional from Quinta da Ponte Pedrinha from the Dão region in Portugal. A really lovely wine - and a bargain at $17 in our web wine store (link in profile). —————————————————— Tasting notes: This wine has a beautiful dark violet color. On the nose, this wine is very aromatic with strong notes of red fruit, earth and spice. On the palate, blueberry, plum, blackberry, and cocoa mix with a hint of violet. Tannins are strong as is the acidity but the wine is very balanced. When we decided on a trip to Portugal I started reaching out to producers that fit our model: small family operations committed to making wines the right way. Using indigenous grapes. Respecting the terroir. Multi-generational wine stories. One of the first people to respond was Patricia Carvalho, a winemaker in Portugal’s Dão wine region. She invited us for a tasting and we had such a great day. Her wines are exquisite and she made the whole experience better by serving up a bunch of homemade Portuguese delicacies. We are planning to have her wines - look for the Quinta da Ponte Pedrinha label - in time for the holidays. I have to also mention that the property is gorgeous.
