a post about the venture bros
one of my favorite quotes ever comes from a video essay about Venture Bros "It all comes from the same place. The serpent was already in the Garden of Eden. How perfect can that place be if it can't even keep out a SNAKE WHO WANTS TO TRICK YOU?"
it's a really fascinating message about how supposed good and evil come from the same place, it's all about passion and pain and a desire to make things right in your eyes. it's about avoiding your personal problems and replacing them with new ones, whether that means creating them or trying to solve them. endless conflict in pursuit of a great distraction from meaningful thought-out change. in a way venture bros kind of predicted the entire online landscape?
this is also why i believe steak bentley when he proposes that the monarch may be "a genuine artist" as he puts it. he's not in it for the glory or the status, the money or the power, he cares about one thing and everything else is a means to that end. again, as steak puts it, "he's not a rules and paperwork guy, he's a 'die doctor venture' guy." even if those feelings come from a need to avoid something else there's something about the monarch that's way more genuine than wide whale or phantom limb.
